  1. Whats being suggested that other teams have realised that Xabi's lack of pace and mobility means that if you can get at him then he lacks the time and space to be as effective as he was when he first came here. Everyone knows he's the bestest mostest briliantest passer of the ball who ever lived ever!
  2. Don't think so, at least Gerrard can be relied upon to score his fair share. What's going on with you lot, lets run down our home grown skipper, one of the two or three genuine world class players we have(No Xabi isn't one of the others) to try and perpetuate the Alonso myth?? Lets also try and make the case that Alonso is better than Essien, better tackler as well, anyone not supporting Liverpool will wet themselves laughing when they hear that b******s. We've been described as a one man team for the last how many seasons and that man was Gerrard. Now apparently we're a 2 man team and thats Gerrard and Torres. Yes I know Alonso has been injured, I just happen to think that contributes to the hysteria on here whenever someone dares suggest he's not actually the 2nd coming of Christ - he's just a good footballer not a great one.
  3. Is the lack of interest in this thread indicative that we all think we're done for January?? I certainly do.
  4. I meant how long ago was it pillock, March 2006 for what it's worth and the example used to demonstrate Alonso's ability to boss a game is nearly 2 years old and not against one of the top sides either. Sissoko actually took a lot of credit out of that game as well. How much of last season was he injured, didn't pull up any trees did he? You make me laugh really, no-one's saying he's a bad player but Kaiser, you and the rest of his groupies are going to ridiculous lengths to try and prove he's World class.
  5. When was that mate? And since?? This is whats being said, once players have had a season or two teams find ways to reduce their effectiveness and this has happened to Xabi.
  6. You truly are delusional, you rate Voronin and think Alonso is better than Essien, without wishing to get personal you are dumb as f***. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I've never said that Alonso isn't a good player, just that he's not as good as made out on here.

    Voronin

Can we not just let this thread die?? He's total toss anyone can see it, end of!
  8. Essien is an athlete who can dominate games defensively and attackingwise, Alonso's intellect doesn't help him run or turn any faster. Alonso is reasonably creative from very deep with little end product, Fabregas is the most complete 'creative' central midfielder in the PL as his goals and assists will probably show. Does Alonso play deeper because he lacks the mobility and athleticism to get up and down the pitch like Fabregas, Flamini, Essien, Mikel, Masch and Gerrard do? Flamini is 1st choice holding midfielder for Wenger keeping WC winner Gilberto out of the side, he's a bloody good player who is having an impact on the chase for this years PL, something Alonso isn't doing because yet again we - with the best midfield in the world - are out of it already. The Scrabble bit is very funny though.
  9. Fair point!
  10. It's not only ridiculous to compare him to Fabregas and Essien it's downright embarassing, and Carrick and Flamini are journeymen????? I asked what Alonso has that makes him better than those players and you've not listed one single thing. It's another case of Liverpool supporters watching through the most 'Rose-tinted' glasses you can buy. I'm not saying he's any worse than them, just asking what exactly gives him the 'best defensive/holding midfielder in the Universe' status he enjoys?

    Saviola

I'm not convinced that a forward who finds the Spanish league too physical would be right to play for us in the PL.
  12. I'm not anti-Alonso by any means but what exactly makes him this irreplaceable, World class heartbeat of our team, and the right man to take us to the PL title? He's not 1st choice for Spain, has dropped off after his first relatively impressive season, hardly scores, can't run very fast, not a great tackler, lets Gerrard take corners when he should be in/around the box and sits too deep. When he's been playing at his very best we've hardly taken any points off the other 'TOP' sides and have never challenged for the title beyond October while he's been playing for us. What makes him so much better than Carrick, Hargreaves, Lampard, Mikel, Flamini, Gilberto etc? I haven't included Scholes, Essien and Fabregas because they're so much better than him it'd be ridiculous. And can we have less of these ridiculous 'Would you swap your red power-ranger for my Pikachoo' threads unless they've actually got any fact in them please?

    Crouch

Or just the luckiest lanky f***** on the planet??? She is fit as ****.
  14. Mikey

    Voronin

Only he's not is he, he's 2nd or 3rd choice, utterley gash and has never, ever been fit to lace Fowlers boots - regardless of how fat Robbie might have been at the time. He is completely f***ing rubbish!
  15. Agree with every word - which is itself quite worrying! We've got better players, a far stronger squad and we're NO BETTER than we have been for the last 4 or 5 years. 21 matches 39 points, predicted total if it carries on is 70 points which should be enough to just grab 4th spot - bloody brilliant aint it?
  16. Ferguson spent over £15M on Nani, did anyone really want us to do that sort of business? We all know the positions we need to strengthen but there aren't that many players out there better than we've already got! Personally I'm happy with Skrtel and would have loved Anelka as well.
  17. Its not too worrying, will they have 11 players left?
  18. You'd think we weren't a million miles away with Babel who's played all his football on the left of a front 3 but it just don't look like it's gonna work does it?
  19. QUICK - Thank **** for that!
  20. Yes he did, F'ing murdered him!
  21. So we play Villa at home on the Monday and then not again until West Ham away on the following Wednesday????? What fixture congestion.
  22. And you'd be hopelessly wrong as well. For what it's worth they are all faster than Kuyt and Huntelaar, just talking to a Gooner downstairs in the bar and he reckons its common knowledge that Adebayor is the FASTEST player over 100M they have got. Drogba is plenty fast, Yakubu and Benjani are both faster than most and Berbatov can shift when he wants to as I've just watched him doing on Sky. Shearer was quick, athletic and strong, Sheringham wasn't but they both played in a time when it was less important than it is now. You cannot be a successful PL striker now unless you have pace to burn or are riduculously talented. Kuyt and Huntelaar(who is better than Kuyt) are neither, Crouch is almost ridiculously talented. If you don't believe me then look at the PL and see who is as slow as Kuyt, Crouch and Voronin as a group.
  23. Faster than Huntelaar and much faster than he's generally given credit for. RVN's possibly the best predator of his generation, hate him with a passion but he's a bloody outstanding goalscorer.
  24. Kuyt, scores shedloads of goals in Holland and can't run very fast! Actually I was a bit of a fan a couple of years ago but have realised that you cannot cut it as a striker in the PL without pace, strength and athletic ability. Huntelaar is a prolific finisher, very good goalscorer - but not very quick or mobile. Somwhow these facts make the likleyhood of us wanting him more believable.
  25. Thats great news, we really need another slow Dutch striker.
