When have we ever signed a Fabregas, Di Maria, an established world class player? I can't think of one. Alonso, Torres, Masch, Suarez all were very good but went to another level after they joined us. Even back in the 80s we were signing the likes of Barnes, Beardsley, Aldridge - we'd have never been in for a Lineker. Still don't understand why people act like this is an FSG/transfer committee thing. It's who we are, it's who we've always been.

What we did was good and possibly very good, depending on how those 4 players continue to improve. Lovren hasn't worked out yet but might. Balotelli obviously hasn't and probably never will. The striker situation was poorly done - but City paying 28 million for Bony shows how difficult it is to get talented strikers for reasonable money. You're right, I forgot about Lovren - which says it all really - and included him in my reply to Molby. Think loaning Origi back was the only way we got that deal done last summer with little competition. Markovic, who knows - if he turns out to be a top-class talent then it will end up being the right signing.

Other than most of us noting that our summer signings might actually be pretty good after all - Can, Lallana, Moreno, Markovic have all been showing huge improvements over the past couple of months. So were our transfers that bad last summer? Balotelli hasn't worked out, the other 4 major signings look like they might become the core of our team for a while.
