It’s totally an attempt to gee up the fans. I just think they’re trying to whitewash some of this and that’s having the opposite effect. They’re treating us like we’re stupid quite frankly (nothing we could do to keep the player with 4.5 years remaining on his contract at the club until the summer).

Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if someone else is in for Mahrez (probably Arsenal) - possible our new found funds have lit a fire under them.

But he showed the lengths he’d go to already - he’ll play but he’ll be sulky about it. Better option for us than what we’ve now got. Plus if was threatening such extraordinary lengths to get his move I’m not sure the club’s statement from Klopp goes out of its way to praise his professionalism.

But it’s patently rubbish mate. What changed between summer and now? One thing and one thing only, the amount that was bid.

I have no doubt it’s Klopp’s call. But like persisting with Mignolet and Moreno that doesn’t make it the right one. I also reckon Klopp was willing to sell in August as it goes.

It’s all relative. How many top class players do we sign with that?

Poor decision on the club’s part to agree to this. Doesn’t matter how the fee is being spun we had all the cards we had in the summer and yet still chose to give in to a player we wanted to keep.

Before all this starts getting muddied, can we acknowledge the club have briefed that the VVD signing has had nothing to do with Coutinho going?

It does though. We’re allowing a key member of our team to go because he wants to. Having basically made it clear we didn’t care about that last August. It’s nuts.

Well they’ve done a crap job of selling this deal to the supporters so far. If the wheels come off our season, or even if we lose to City, there’s going to be a reaction.

He was desperate last summer too. What I don’t understand is why we’re suddenly desperate to accede to his wishes? Our hand continues to be just as strong come the end of the season.

Not that I think we’re after him, but interestingly Mignolet isn’t cup tied for another club either... Totally.

It’s weird that we’re happy to sell a player cos he wants to go but seem to be briefing that it’ll be hard to get our targets now cos their clubs don’t want to sell. There’s still a major disconnect in this probable deal which needs explaining.

If it is agreed, I think it’ll be announced iminently. No way this gets delayed til we do our shopping.

Don’t get the impression that Klopp wants him. Think he always played him wide too when they were both at Dortmund.

I think we’ve made them get real about the add ons in fairness - at least that’s what all the commentary around this deal is suggesting. I really do think this is a mad decision though.

Latest reports are that it’s all done. €120m up front, €40m in add ons. Coutinho may fly out to Barcelona tonight and watch them play against Levante tomorrow.

We certainly should be after a couple of players to replace him. And options are good. I also don’t think the central midfield gap he leaves behind is a problem really. It’s the right foot cutting in from the left side I’m more concerned about - along with the set pieces, creativity and threaded passing.

Yep. That’s my concern too. I’m surprised there hasn’t been more focus on the fact we were being linked to PSV’s Lozano about a week ago. Apparently Arsenal were after him but we’ve also expressed an interest.
