here's the against Liverpool. surely one of the best team goals i've ever seen. now if only we had the personnel to accomplish something even remotely close to that!

to be fair, we won 5-2 after taking control of the second half following a nervy/sluggish/underpar first half. H&W put in a commendable effort. it is a knockout competition where anything can go - as we well know.

why sell Pennant? he was playing well before he went down w/ injury (which he's only just returned from). he's one of the few players in our squad that can take on players, offer some width, & get good crosses into the box. Benayoun is not a right WINGER. i hope to see him playing in the hole or as a second striker more often.

still only 28. a few good years left him in. from the Argentina & Valencia games that i've seen, he's not a lightweight either. its no secret that we need an attacking ball-carrier to support Torres. i believe that Benayoun could play that role well, as can Aimar. maybe we'll see a lot of 4-3-3... w/ 3 of Gerrard, Alonso, Masch, or Lucas in midfield... & Torres w/ 2 of Benayoun, Aimar, or Babel up front. then there's also Kewell (when fit) & Pennant to provide some genuine width when needed. the possibilities are certainly there... but we really must apply pressure & take the game to the opposition from the get-go instead of waiting around till they strike first. anyhow, here's the mandatory youtube vid Matias Fernandez very Placcy-like.

its not Mascherano's job to bomb forward. his position is DEFENSIVE midfielder. (btw, he DOES launch forward during the close of games when we are chasing) sorry if he doesn't score enough goals to please you but Mascherano is one of our most consistent/reliable players & is world class in his position. if you can't see his quality, then you just haven't been watching Liverpool matches.
