  1. I thought it was a fake account that tweeted the Klopp stuff?
  2. Any idea who Duncan Jenkins is and why is he considered such a good source?
  3. It's character assassination. The manager's job at Liverpool seems to have become like the England job in terms of how the media treats the incumbent: he is there to be taken down.
  4. Those two decisions were shocking. Dunn's could have injured Shelvey and arguably could have been a red (the Toure precedent and all that). Maxi's was never in any way dangerous.

    Kenny

I wonder about this bit and if it was damaging overall. It has the effect of making the issue a clear cut case of Suarez being completely innocent or not, and, if innocent, then Evra is guilty. It made our stance seem antagonistic rather than the more nuanced, sensitive approach epieur describes. It also indicates a huge mistake in our handling of the case which was in ever thinking that Suarez could be completely exonerated. Even in a perfectly fair world, where the FA doesn't have an agenda, there was always going to be some mud that would stick - it's in the nature of this type of allegation. It's not helped when Luis had admitted to the use of a word that referenced colour (however indirectly and idiomatically) and left himself open to the inference of racist abuse. But mainly the mistake was that, in a case where it was one man's word against another, we thought we could afford to be so bullish about Luis' innocence. The club and Kenny were so strong in their defence that many of us (me anyway) genuinely thought we were going to have a Matlock style moment where we produce the definitive evidence proving Evra's allegations to be lies - but of course we didn't because we couldn't. For the same reason that Luis should never have been found guilty - the lack of evidence - we were never going to be able to completely exonerate him either. We needed to plan for a best case outcome where Luis has to swallow some amount of guilt - unfair and all as that may be.
  6. Another one from yesterday: http://www.101greatgoals.com/gvideos/jonjo-shelvey-tells-andy-carroll-to-get-in-the-fing-box/ Funnily enough, in the build up to the dive/fall/whatever he showed a glimpse of what he's capable of: beats a defender in the air, shows good pace to get on the end of his own flick on, good touch to beat the defender and the keeper.....and then wastes it all.
  7. Yes. There was no arm-waving or screaming at the ref looking for a foul. He also looks genuinely shocked when he realises the ref is about to book him. I think he just got his feet in a mess and fell over. Then lay there feeling a bit stupid (presumably).

    Newcastle

We're giving them all the space to play they could possibly want - huge gaps in front of our defence.

    Mancs Away

Did the rest of our players shake Evra's hand?
  10. Good to see Carroll throwing his weight around.
  11. Listening to Didi on lfc.tv. I think the way to go for the game is to pause ITV until it synchs up with the commentary on lfc.tv.
  12. Always good to see Evans in the line up for them.
  13. Thanks. Hard to tell them apart with this stream.
  14. Was it Enrique or Downing who crossed for Bellamy's air kick?
  15. Playing wide left in a midfield four probably suits him
  16. We shouldn't but it depends on how we're set up in the middle, I think. The 3-CB wing back with Kuyt alone up front approach worked against Stoke last season because behind Dirk we had Stevie and Meireles regularly hitting the penalty area. On Sat, Downing and Henderson didn't look anywhere near as comfortable in those positions. I actually felt a bit sorry for Downing as he clearly isn't cut out for a narrower position like that. The mention of Valencia on this thread provides an interesting. On the few occasions I've seen him play, he seems only ever to be used in a straightforward wide-right role in a flat midfield and almost always with Rooney up front as a target. When they want to play narrower in midfield they use someone else e.g. Park, Nani, Giggs.
  17. That the chances we create aren't good enough? Luis running 40 yards at full pelt past 5 defenders and being forced to take a shot from an impossible angle while stumbling over a sliding tackle because there is no one better positioned to pass to, is still a chance, just very unlikely to go in.

    Stoke

Think he means that with 3 centre backs, you can't really change much without making a substitution, whereas Stoke could simply drop Walters a little deeper. Our selection had a lack of tactical flexibility built in, while Stoke could adapt much more easily.
  19. He's implying he knows exactly what Tom Adeyemi has reported hearing and also claims to be privy to some pretty serious, and possibly criminal, abuse directed at Kick It Out/Ouseley. Strange then that it's all buried at the bottom of a piece about QPR.
  20. He's a natural finisher, but he's utterly brainless (which probably explains why he didn't score so many when he took a step up to Spain and Italy) and offers next to nothing in general play.
  21. The bit I pasted into the thread above was from the INTERPRETATION OF THE LAWS OF THE GAME AND GUIDELINES FOR REFEREES section of the Laws of the Game. This is the only official interpretation. I really think the "two feet off the ground" thing is purely a media invention. Never ceases to amaze me how little knowledge of these rules there is among people with a professional interest in the game. I know an ex-pro goalkeeper who was convinced that if a keeper handles the ball outside the penalty area it's a straight red, regardless of the circumstances i.e. denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
  22. Not sure where "out of control" came from. The rule is: Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play [serious foul play carries an automatic red card as punishment] Btw, the rules are made up by the International Football Association Board on which the FA has one out of 8 votes (the Northern Irish, Welsh and Scottish FA's have one each as well, with FIFA having a block of four).
  23. Number of feet off the ground shouldn't be relevant, it's the referee's interpretation of whether or not the force used in the tackle was excessive and endangered the opponent. From the rule book on fifa.com: Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force and endangering the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play [serious foul play carries an automatic red card as punishment]
  24. He was excellent on Hicks and Gilett and provided some balance on Rafa when most were sticking the boot in, but his favourite style is full-on diatribe and that often compromises the quality of the content.
  25. It's come up before on here, but the Mirror headline with the quotes ('I called him a negro....') is surely libellous. Newspapers often paraphrase quotes to make headlines, so I assume there is some leeway, but how can they willfully misrepresent the meaning to such an extent?
