  1. I reckon its in their best interest to try and start an auction Whether its true or not I think the Modric to Chelsea story might ignite Spurs interest in Adam
  2. Pault86 Paul Thompson Blackpool have accepted a bid from spurs for Adam. Pault86 Paul Thompson Received** not accepted. Sorry about that. Pault86 Paul Thompson Spurs bid is player plus cash for Adam. Pault86 Paul Thompson Regardless of this move. @Charlie26Adam wants to Join Liverpool. Fourth_Official Fourth Official Two other clubs have matched Liverpool's offer for Adam, seems he still has his heart set on a move to Anfield though #LFC Fourth_Official Fourth Official Don't know the two clubs, a lot of rumours flying around that Spurs are one. #charlieadam Danny8t4 Daniel Ireland So looks like Blackpool have accepted a bid for Charlie Adam. They really don't want him to play for us. Danny8t4 Daniel Ireland The bid is from Tottenham and not Liverpool. Pault86 Paul Thompson To clarify. Blackpool have Received a bid from spurs for Adam. I'm going off now till tonight. Speak then. JamieDalton82 Jamie Dalton If Spurs have gazumped Liverpool for Adam, well sure sign Modric is off - and Oyston has dicked LFC royally. Richard__Buxton Richard Buxton @ @JamieDalton82 If he has then it will show that the Bloomfield Road circus is still in full swing. Also kudos on using the term 'dicked' JamieDalton82 Jamie Dalton @ @Richard__Buxton Think Oyston is punishing them for January? Richard__Buxton Richard Buxton @ @JamieDalton82 Possibly although the ringmaster/court jester act he had going on with Holloway then would suggest nothing much has changed

  10. Exclusive - Houghton: 'Liverpool are sinking and the owners have to spend' Ray Houghton has told Liverpool's new owners they have to spend money in the January transfer window to stop the club from sinking. The Reds' 3-1 defeat at Blackburn leaves them just four points above the Premier League's relegation zone and with the pressure mounting on under-fire manager Roy Hodgson. But Houghton feels it's unfair to lay all the blame at the door of the beleaguered boss. He told Hawksbee & Jacobs: "It looks like the club is sinking at the moment. They need a lift. Even if the board come out and said Roy is staying at least it’s clear to the players. At the moment there’s uncertainty. "If the owners are for real they’ve got to give him some money [in January] and back him to bring in at least one big name player. They need someone to come in and give them a boost, but I’m not sure that’s going to happen." Houghton also feels it's unfair that Hodgson is taking all the flak and says the players have to share the blame for the club's current woes. * "I don’t think you can totally blame the manager. It's the same group of players that lost 11 league games last season, so why everyone thought Roy would come in and everything would be fine I don’t know. "There are problems, there's no doubt about that, and he didn’t have heavy investment to go out and strengthen the team. "The legacy he’s been left is a squad with only two strikers, Ngog who’s still young and learning his trade, and Torres, whose form hasn’t been good." But Houghton admits Hodgson could be fighting a losing battle to hang on to his job. "Signs around Melwood saying 'Hodgson Out' don’t bode well for Roy. If you come into a club and you’re 50-50 with the fans, if they turn against you quickly you’ll struggle and it looks like being a long hard struggle for him. "But if it was as simple as changing the manager everyone would be doing it. The players have to take responsibility, they’re the ones out there playing." http://www.talksport.co.uk/sports-news/football/premier-league/4297/3/exclusive-houghton-liverpool-are-sinking-and-owners-have-spend

  14. We sat nowhere near as deep last season as we have this We have been retreating to the 18 yard box this season and inviting the opposition to put balls into our box At least last season we started putting pressure on the opposition higher up the pitch My biggest problem with Hodgson so far has been pressure on the ball (or lack thereof) which then compounds the problem of sitting deep The whole sitting deep and defending balls into the box is only effective if you have players capable of heading the ball which we dont (Soto excluded) I'm undecided on last weeks performance not sure if it was a tactical switch or whether Blackburn were just so f***ing s**** I suppose tomorrow will tell us a little more

Now take the money and run Mar 5 2008 by John Thompson, Liverpool Echo THE future of one of the world’s greatest football clubs hangs in the balance today. Liverpool FC is at the centre of a wicked tug-of-war with American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, in the eyes of fans, wanting a huge fortune to release it from their grasp. Yesterday the two Americans, who are at loggerheads with each other, were offered a generous profit of £25m each on their year-old investment by Dubai Investment Capital. With the pair so divided, there is surely no way now they can ever repair the damage between themselves, and at Anfield, and continue at the helm. Late last night, DIC sources say the pay-off offer to Gillett, was increased to a staggering £80m. Yet, once again, he has rejected it. It seems Liverpool FC is nothing more than a crude bargaining chip on the roulette table of high commerce, while the fans who love the club can only look on helpless. Business may be business but both men, Gillett in particular, today stand to make such an enormous personal fortune from Anfield that it almost beggars belief they should decline. These men must no longer stand in the way of a solution to this crisis. They’ve been offered a fortune by the Dubaians to step aside. And they have a moral obligation to accept. Common decency demands an end to this unedifying episode today. The dollars are on the table for Hicks and Gillett, but it is the dreams of thousands of loyal fans which they hold in their hands.

From the Globe and Mail (Canadian). Checkout the last sentence. Dubai consortium makes bid for Liverpool Associated Press March 4, 2008 at 8:12 AM EST LIVERPOOL, England — Dubai International Capital made an $800 million bid for Liverpool on Tuesday — and gave the club's embattled American owners a 24-hour deadline. An executive working on the bid told The Associated Press that DIC — the private-equity investment arm of the Dubai government — wants an answer within 24 hours from Tom Hicks and George Gillett Jr. He spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the negotiations. The bid was made a day after DIC chief executive Sameer al-Ansari said Hicks and Gillett had "come out of dreamland" over their valuations of the Premier League club. Hicks has repeatedly vowed to retain his 50 percent stake in Liverpool, and a person familiar with the Texan's plans last week told the AP that he is looking into to buying out all or part of Gillett's equal stake. But Gillett, whose relationship with Hicks has reportedly broken down, has been in close contact with DIC in recent weeks after deciding to end his troubled spell at Anfield. Hicks and Gillett bought Liverpool for $431 million in March 2007. This included an agreement to pay off about $89 million of debt and a pledge to build and finance a new stadium. Gillett and Hicks refinanced their Liverpool deal with a $682 million package from two banks on Jan. 25. But the package left the 18-time English champion with debt of $205 million. Liverpool's debts would be wiped out if the Dubai bid was successful, the executive said. http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/R...ortsSoccer/home

I've believed we will win the league many times during the last 18 years, that didnt happen and neither will Hicks' £1 billion We are light years behind United and they arent even worth that much Even more than that I can see anyone paying £1 billion for our club even 5 or 6 years down the line

We keep hearing this billion future valuation but does anyone serious believe that anyone would pay that amount for us? Lets face it, it has taken years to find people interested at less than £200 million and at double that there is only one group interested For me the stadium would have to be finished and we would have to be winning stuff left right and centre and have fantastic sponsorship and merchandising to come even close to that valuation

If I remember at the time the broadsheets reported at a sticking point was Hicks adding non-LFC related conditions to any deal Thats what makes me think that this has an element of truth in it My guess is DIC have to buy into his other franchises to get their hands on LFC or pay a grossly over-inflated price

Taken from elsewhere The Observer yesterday reported that: "Tom Hicks is seeking an off-market placement of existing shares in Hicks Sports Group, which includes investments in Liverpool, the Texas Rangers baseball team and the Dallas Stars ice hockey franchise." Some posters on here have seen this as an attempt to raise the cash to buy Gillett out. however, since the sale of these shares would reduce his holding in Liverpool, I don't think ths is what he's after. I suspect this is an attempt to push DIC into buying these Hicks Group shares at an inflated price. We know DIC are likely to buy out Gillett, and that they would also like a majority shareholding in Liverpool. The only way they would get this is to buy some of Hicks share in the club as well. What Hicks is basically saying is that the only way they can do this is to also buy shares in his other 'franchises' (which are heavily debt laden and not doing well). By linking these to his LFC holdings, he is trying to push up their value and sell at the same time. On the plus side, this also suggests that he has realised he can't raise the funds to buy the whole club.

  25. I dont see DIC making the same mistakes as the current owners They have seen the reaction from the fans regarding sacking Rafa and I think theyd give him a year in the job and let him hang himself (if need be)
