  1. Garcia. - unpredictable but has scored some of the most important goals in the last few years. Overall a + Alonso. quality. Nuff said. Pelligrino. (gone) 6 months, never adjusted to the pace, too old maybe to do so... Morientes. (gone) I was so hopefule when he joined, given his performances now he's back at Valencia perhaps its a case of 'couldnt adjust' Carson. good, reckon he'll come back and be no. 2 next season. Defo a good backup and will push Reina hard imo Reina. good but having a tough 2nd season. Perhaps needs a Didi type player to make him look better. Maybe strange to say but he (and the back 4) have looked uneasy since Didi left. Sissoko. good. Maybe needs to be repositioned into the Didi role more. Crouch. good. Coming up with the goods more than any other up front this season. Promise is one thing, end product is another. And he's got it. Gonzalez. too early to tell Kromkamp. (gone) good(er) going forward but never going displace Finnan at RB. Good Sale imo Agger. Good and going to get better, reckon he could be the equivalent of an Alonso signing in defence Bellamy. too early to tell (maybe) needs more time, hmmm mind not made up at all. Paletta. too few games, a Carra understudy I think. more time required before any judgement can be made Aurelio. good going forward, poor going the other way, stop gap ala Josemi me thinks Pennant. ?. neither convinced good or otherwise about him, Probably more under threat of being replaced than any other in this list. Kuyt. good, going to only get better. sums up what LFC is about for me frankly. His commitment is good he plays like a fan who's been given a ten minute run out - all heart and will to win. Been here 3 months(ish) and has settled in well, lots more to come from him. With the end product this will be a Grade A star. Best signing since Alonso imo Overall, more good (way more) than bad. Thumbs up to Rafa in the transfer market I reckon!
  2. A couple of seasons back didnt Houllier go from a negative set up - ultra defensive and try to play a more expansive attacking game? It did'nt work and we dropped a lot of points, after a bit GH bricked it and went back to the more defensive set up knowing we couldnt play attacking football and win? Seems like we've undergone a similar transformation just now - compared with last season we seem to be placing the emphasis much more on attack and are struggling to balance that with defence. Personally I hope we dont go back into our shells, hope we persevere with our attacking play and see it to its fruition. I think this is going to be a season of adjustment - much like 2002(?) just hope we use it as a springboard rather than a peek through the curtains like before.
  3. Quality. Thanks John Martin!

  5. Cant say I'd disagree with that possibly replacing Keegan with Fowler as I've not seen that much of him along with Lawler, R Kennedy and Callaghan Bearsleys worth a place too I reckon ahh spoilt for choice
  6. John Barnes mentioned some of this stuff here... Barnes speaks to the Offal ..... As the first high profile black player to sign for Liverpool, did you feel under extra pressure when you arrived at Anfield? John Barnes: "No, because I see myself as a footballer. I don't see myself as a black footballer. Obviously Howie Gayle had played before as the first black player but I didn't see any more undue pressure because of my colour. I saw pressure because I was coming to a great club like Liverpool, who were the best club in the country at the time probably Europe. The pressure to perform is immense. Not just for me being a black player but for anyone. "Secondly there was a little bit of negativity surrounding my transfer to Liverpool because at the time I remember Liverpool coming in for me in January and I didn't come until the end of the season. There was a lot of speculation that I didn't want to come to Liverpool and wanted to go to Arsenal and was just waiting. So when I first came there was a bit of negativity before I'd actually played. Fortunately for myself Liverpool had their first three games away from home because there was a hole in the Kop and it went really well for me. I created a goal for John Aldridge in the first game against Arsenal. The first game here at Anfield I scored a free-kick and by then they had taken to me. Had the first game been at home - that negativity surrounding my transfer to Liverpool - maybe the crowd could have got on my back, who knows what would have happened. I'm pleased the first three games were away from home because by the time we got back to Anfield, they had really taken to me." Obviously he isnt going to put himself in a bad light by saying he was looking at other options, but thats straight from the man himself - admittingly it doesnt answer all the questions in this thread. btw - is the autob under discussion a new one?
  7. good read, enjoyed that Thanks!
  8. Mark Kennedy Paul Stewart El Hadj Diouf Salif Diao Bruno Cheryou I reckon I could do a '100 Bellends who wee'd on the Club' list...starts here along with the 5 above I'd add Julian Dicks Neil Ruddock Torben Piechnik Mauricio Pellegrino Bjorn Tore Kvarme Nigel Clough Sean Dundee Erik Meijer Sander Westerveld Titi Camara Rigobert Song Christian Ziege Abel Xavier Gregory Vignal Nicolas Anelka Emile Heskey Phil Babb Oyvind Leonhardsen David James Nigel Clough Djimi Traore Bernard Diomede Jean Michel Ferri Jimmy Carter Nicky Tanner Josemi Istvan Kozma Jan Kronkamp Vladimir Smicer Dean Saunders Paul Ince Chris Kirkland not bad for 5 minutes thought. Balls to the lot of 'em
  9. good to see City end there losing streak away from home
  10. He still has some way to beat Steve Nicol but his rate of improvement is such over the past 18-24 months thats its a deinite possibility. I think Nicol is our best ever LB so if he gets even close then he'll have shown himself to be one hell of a player. Personally I think he s***s all over Ashley Cole and Heinze. Defo our best LB in the past 12-14 years. Fantastic engine too. No LB in the league gets close in terms of his attacking threat. I'm struggling to think of a LB I'd rather have in there in a defensive position currently too....which is a good thing! Good on ya Riise!

  15. I actually thought John Scales did alright, at the time thought he was a player we needed, wouldnt describe him as PB mark 2 by a long shot. just me? - never seen him dance on a car mind you....
  16. Hey Buddy - if you aint got photographic proof then dont waste our time!
  17. fair enough Will - my honest question was about sub apps - thanks for the info - I searched but couldnt find anything about his sub apps - I bow to your database of knowledge - how I enter your database of LFC knowledge when I do a google?!
  18. I read the article smarta*** was just asking about competitive appearances...of which said article makes no reference. Have you read it yourself?! Double smartarses to both of ye! start does not imply competitive does it?
  19. Can I ask is this 1st team starts only or does it include sub appearances from the bench also? Also it IS only competitive games I assume? found an appearance list here is anyone is interested in having a look Players ranked by appearances

  23. I know squads were smaller 20-25 years ago but playing your best team every week and asking the rest to prove they warranted a place in the team is still the pole which I lean against. We played a fair few games in the 83 - 84 and 84-84 seasons, be interested to hear how many players we used and their appearances over that season. We know (and have read right here on YNWA) that Reina needs a settled 4 in front of him for him to have confidence in that defence, that applies throughout the team surely. Chopping the midfield/strikers must have the same effect on those playing behind them as chopping the defence would have on Reina? Sorry if I come across as old school but playing your best 11 every game is the way I'd like to see this heart-string tugger of a team to go whether its league, league cup, FA cup or euros....
  24. You're right - that would be a shock. Bigger shock if we kept a clean sheet though with no keeper....
