Match Topic Sunderland vs Liverpool - Premier League, 11th February @ 8:15pm

Well wasn't expecting that, glad Virge got the winner. A good performance which should've been more comfortable in the end. Just one thing though our front men this season must have one of the worst conversion ratios in the league. -
He's gone full Hodgson, it's over. I have no belief or trust he can fully turn this around.

What is this obsession about not wanting to play 3 at the back? I don't get it, football is always evolving. Managers are always constantly looking to find ways of being better than the opposition. Yes the last time we played three at the back consistently was in the mid to late 90s but that was 30 years ago. Why couldn't a manager make it work today? Please give a detailed answer on a postcard please.

Fearing the worst, it's the type of fixture where you've been average all season and it'll bring out everything that has gone wrong on the pitch. So expect: 1) A defensive howler 2) Them having the freedom of the middle of the park 3) Struggle to deal with long throw ins 4) Concede a last minute goal 5) Pass ourselves to death with slow sideways football 6) Barely have a shot on target and if we do it'll be tepid 7) Baffling substitutions after the 75 min mark 8. Comment on our players looking like they're playing through treacle after 75 mins. 9) Someone forced off due to injury 10) After another league game this season wondering why the manager is still in the job. Have I missed anything? -
It's frightening to think where we would be right now if we had Williams and Phillips at the back. We'd be in the bottom half of the table. Jurgen had a knack of taking average players in the squad and helping them punch well above their weight.
-
His treatment and the utilization of the squad players is another red flag against his man management skills. The players like Chiesa, Robbo, Elliot, etc have been treated almost as outcasts which in turn affects dressing room harmony. It's clear Slot doesn't trust these players to do a job. In stark contrast look at how Jurgen won the league cup with them. He believed in them, made them feel important to the club and got the best out of them.

Over the past 20 games we're performing worse than Promotion side Sunderland, Brighton, Brentford, Fulham and the Bitters. Despite our injuries you cannot say all of those teams have better squads than us. This is mismanagement on a catastrophic level. We were Champions last season FFS! We've been waiting all season for things to get better especially after that awful run of 9 defeats in 12 games. We're not getting better, we've just plateaued into mid table mediocrity. We're not going to get top 5 under this manager. I am thankful for what Arne has done, especially after delivering the league title last season. When things were going well he was making the right decisions, could do no wrong. However when things started to go pear shaped he doesn't know or he can't motivate the players to bring us out of it. The Champions League is the only thing we've got left to play for this season. Yes we're in the knockout stages so anything can happen. We'll need some luck to win it though because we will need to get past an English team to win the trophy I feel.

Just woken up and I'm disappointed to see he is still in a job.
-
It's time for him to go, it's the right call. I don't see any upside in keeping him until the end of the season. Some people will look to the Champions League but we'll have to get past an English team to win it. It's not going to happen.
-
Not looking forward to the Sunderland game. They're a different proposition at home and I'm fearing the worst. I go into the game with hope/dread rather than expectation. How far we've fallen this season.
-
Oh it can get nasty, the end of Houllier, the end of Benitez, the end of Hodgson. The only reason it hasn't got nasty yet is because Arne built up credit by winning the league last season. Top four/five is slipping away fast and the sooner the Anfield crowd sees that the boos will start to rain down.
-
1 in 4 win ratio, much worse than any of the recent managers that have been sacked in the premier league. I can't believe that the people at the top of the club think that this is acceptable. This is nowhere near good enough, by not sacking him it feels almost like sabotage.
-
If he does I'm going to
-
I would not blame him for not wanting to return but he would be the first one on speed dial to save this season for me. Jurgen makes his players feel like they're ten foot tall.
-
Exactly! Arne has got far better players at his disposal and he's producing similar results to the Hodge. It's f***ing disgraceful and unacceptable.
-
Doesn't surprise me. His record is just as bad as Hodgson's, I just can't believe this level of mediocrity is now all of a sudden acceptable at this club? Especially after winning the league, no fan should accept what we've seen this season it's time for a change now while there's a third of the season to go.
-
Just to put it into perspective as to why he should be gone. Since the opening five games of the season our record stands as: P20 W6 D6 L8 F29 A30 GD-1 Pts 24 24 points from the last 20 games. In that time we're performing worse than Fulham, Brighton, Newcastle, Sunderland, Brentford and Everton. We've been the 12th best team in the league. It's mid table mediocrity, it's just as bad if not worse than Hodgson. We're not catching Villa, Chelsea or the Mancs with this manager in charge. He needs to go if we want to salvage anything from this season.
-
But it's not just about tonight is it? Take the season in its entirety. We went on a run of 9 defeats in 12 games. Bad defeats at home against Forest and PSV. Surrending last minute goals and dropping crucial points against Palace, Leeds etc. I'm sorry but it is all on Slot, he's the manager, he sets the tone, he determines how we play, the tactics, the substitutions, the mentality, how to motivate the players. It's just not good enough, this season is a shocker. We're way below expectations.
-
Aye we are so mentally fragile. Even Klopps worst team would put this Liverpool side to the sword.

We always look knackered after playing most of the season at walking pace. Fitness, endurance and stamina seriously needs to be looked at. It's a huge f***ing screw up by management. I think we're near the bottom when it comes to distance covered. -

Totally, it's all down to the manager and his team. Our mentality is weak, we buckle under any sort of pressure. Players are playing like individuals and we are reliant on individual brilliance. There's no togetherness, no system, no fluidity in our play. Players appear confused as to what their roles are in the side. It's a huge mess, this has been a s*** storm of a season and it's completely unacceptable considering we were the best team in the land last season. -

Sometimes in football you do get what you deserve. Being good for 30 mins shouldn't excuse as to what happened out there tonight. That first half alone wasn't good enough. City outplayed us for 45 mins and we couldn't get the ball off them nor could we put anything together ourselves. We were at home, under the lights and we were playing like we were at their ground. I've had enough, seriously, he should've gone a while ago but I can no longer back or defend this manager -
Please go Arne, thanks for the title but you've lost your head this season. We're not getting top 4 this season with you at the helm.

Oh I agree but I think he was kept on because top 4 was still in play. But with now both the Mancs and Chelsea starting to get their acts together we're in serious jeopardy of missing out. I can no longer see any justifiable reason as to why he should be still in the job. -

It's been a clusterf*** of a season. Injuries to key players, A run of 9 defeats in 12, baffling substitutions, damaging home defeats.
