If Arbeloa has convinced Rafa that he's good enough to start left back for the whole season, I'd expect Rafa to buy a defender who could play right back as well as centre back (even though Heinze was a left and centre option).

If we get rid of Crouch and buy one of those players being mentioned here, we'd have someone else unhappy with their role, be it Kuyt or Voronin. Personally, I don't think the squad that Rafa has assembled here is stable. Too many central options in midfield and up front, and not enough reliable options on the wings.

Role is similar, and as a third choice to play up front and hold the ball up, Sven wont be thinking he needs Crouch - is my thinking.

I agree. It would be devastating at times, when Anelka drifted wide and torres came n from the left. That aside though, both are similar in stature and physical traits. Could see them getting into each others way, making similar runs etc.

Mpenza's a decent player. Thought he did well with what he got against Manure. Thats the thing, they have Bianchi, Mpenza and then Dickov who can play that big striker hold up role that Crouch plays. Doubt they'd be in for Crouchie, and I'm happy about that.

This might be the last injury that Rafa will tolerate. He needs to get fit and be available for selection in a long run of games. I think only if he is able to put the injuries aside, offer himself for selection and then perform well when called upon, will he get a new contract from the club.
