Ludovic Giuly has issued Barcelona an ultimatum after responding to reports suggesting Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez will bid to bring him to Anfield in the summer.

The French schemer wants a two-year extension to his present deal at Camp Nou, that runs until 2007, and his preference is to remain with the UEFA Champions League semi-finalists.

Although not denying the alleged interest from Liverpool, the 29-year-old says he has yet to hear from Benitez but admitted he wants his demands met by his present employers.

"Did Benitez call me?" he said in L'Equipe. "Not yet.

"Maybe he will do it soon - if you say so.

"I have offers from France and elsewhere.

"But the question will not be topical before the end of the season for me.

"I am fine at Barca, where I would like to finish my career.

"For that, I need a contract extension, as mine will end in June, 2007. But I will sign with my conditions, which are two additional years.

"If the club trusts me, they will accept or we will negotiate.

"We will have to talk in 10 or 15 days."

The talented Frenchman added 'after Mr Parry messed my brother Gingan around, 5 years ago, I have been reluctant to support the Liverpool team. Now Mr benitez, maybe he is changing my mind.

He's a good player and one I wouldn't have minded seeing play for us. Those quotes attributed to him make him sound like a bit of a demanding tw*t though....

I preferred Gingan, the one that got away.

29 and too expensive, not a Rafa type signing.

He doesn't seem to know if we're interested either - seems like the reporter is asking him questions like, "Did you know that Rafa Benitez is interested in you? Has he been in contact yet?"

He offers very, very similar attributes to Garcia; Giuly is a talented player, but I'd rather keep Luis and bring in a different type of forward this summer.

We need a goalscorer and some pace up front.

You're not doing a very convincing job of talking him up there. :)

Yes he is - apart from being feeble, inconsistant and too old he's clearly brilliant...

Well, that's because I think there are more suitable candidates. He's brilliant on his day though. Just not convinced he is well suited for the prem, same way I wasn't with nando. And at his age, you don't really want to gamble on him taking too long to adjust.

My point was more that I think he definitely offers something different to Garcia.

Guilly - Wants to stay with Barca but will look elsewhere

Can't get a starting place for Barca

Unproven in the English League

Will cost money

Fowler- Already a Legend

Loves the Club

Scoring a goal-a-game

Better than Guilly

No Brainer - Keep Robbie and forget Gingan

why would you contrast him to fowler? I'd imagine we'd buy him to play wide, not up front.

Funny though how people see it differently like you said; I'd have Giuly as more of a forward who can move out wide when necessary.

Practically every time I've seen him for Monaco or Barca he's been playing just off the front man, either Eto'o or Morientes...

I'm not comparing him. Just saying I would rather have Robbie around. Rafa will only keep 4 strikers and if Guilly were to be in consideration I would rather have Robbie.
