is it just me or is there too many articles in the newspapers about how liverpool fans wanted benitez out and called for his head last year after we lost to palace ? its gone into the 'common knowledge' of all the football writers and managers it seems?

david O'leary said something about this and even james lawton from the guardian a pro liverpool writer said liverpool fans' attitude towards benitez was sometimes ambivalent ?

I don't remember this ,maybe its the rose tinted glasses?when we lose people will be critical ,it doesn't matter who the manager is or what they've won ,none are immune nor should they be but there was never any big coming together of fans wanting benitez out ....was there?

Are you taking the piss? I can't remember one fan who wanted Rafa out last year? Especiall after the GH era!

People weren't giving it the whole "sack the board" treatment, but a couple of people did suggest getting rid of him because "he couldn't adjust to the hustle and bustle of the English game"

It must be taken in the context that your average football fans is thick as pig s*** and believes what he reads in the tabloids.

Then you have the other w*****s who want to be the first to say "******* OUT" just to be different and so thay can claim when if it does go t*** up that they had him sussed ages ago.

Its not just us.

Plenty of Mancs wanted Thecheatingdrunkenbribetakingbully sacked just before he won the treble.

I sometimes fantasise about going round with a shotgun and just blasting people who come out with this s*** but always stop myself (youve been warned though!! )

Are you kidding? It is all Case went on about for months, confidently predicting that we would NEVER win anything of note under Rafa.

He eventually took his ball home and disappeared when he got sick of getting dog's abuse everytime he posted.

In fairness, he reappeared before the end of the season and by the end of it was big enough to admit that he was wrong.

He was the most vocal but there wil definitely have been others. Seem to remember the general mood after Birmingham away last year was pretty dark, though not many were saying Rafa should go.

Guest toadboy

we are third in the league.....in the cup....in the champions league....champions league holders who went and defended a 0-0 in a hostile Stadio del Alpi....came back from 0-3 in the greatest cup final of all time.......went a dozen or more games winning, without conceding goals

lacking bottle my f***ing a***

Did you read the point I put across?

If you did you're thick, if you didn't you're ignorant.

1. wind your neck in

2. It wasnt aimed at you in particular....it was aimed at the general point of us lacking bottle, which has been expressed on this board a few times, and in the press recently

Now go and read my post and see where I mention you or your post? If I was answering you I would have replied to you like I am doing now

No need to apologise

Here's a criticism of Rafa for you, tell me if you disagree.

This team lacks bottle. I know a lot of people will jump on this and point to the European cup run last year - won off the back of tough and battling performances. And I'll point to that run to back the statement up.

Juventus at home, first 30 minutes - brave, aggressive, committed and passionate football - blew Juve, as good a team as there was in Europe last year, away.

Chelsea at home - that opening burst - fear free, knew we had to score and we kicked the front door in.

Compare that to Man United, twice in the league, and Chelsea away. 3 games when we had most of the ball but were scared to commit to attack, too cautious to take a chance.

OK we're lacking a couple of players that can really make a difference up front but we're a better side than the mancs and have enough to hurt Chelsea but we have to have the bottle to do it.

The next 2 games we have are poignient in this - Arsenal and Man United have shown how vulnerable they are when attacked, so will we have a pop at them or play cat and mouse? Cat and mouse will suit Arsenal and Man United more than us.

Bottle is the wrong word but generally kind of agree.

I do think we pay some teams too much respect. Earlier in the season I was concerned as to why we were playing at such a slow pace against the likes of Birmingham away from home and why we weren't going at Manchester United at home like we did to teams like Juve last season in Europe. We were too scared against Chelsea and United recently imo, a lot of posession but the pace we played at made it look as if we were afraid of what they could do to us on the break. That was one of the criticisms of our away form last year as well imo.

But we're a work in progress, particularly attacking wise and it'll come.

The only person I've seen even contemplating it was "chrisbonnie" and that was this season.

I do think a few people would have said "the jury's still out" though, but only the arch-pessimists.

I think Case made a case too but has since gone back on that and had a triple helping of humble pie and ice cream.
