Just seen this over on TLW, copied from http://filgoal.filbalad.com/english/News.asp?NewsID=21204

DR Congo captain Lomana LuaLua left Cairo on Sunday after he found out about his son's death, the African Cup of Nations official website said.

The Portsmouth striker flew to England ahead of the original departure date for the Congo delegation.

Congolese officials kept news of LuaLua's son a secret since January 20th as not to affect the player during the team's African campaign.

Congo were eliminated from the African Cup after losing to hosts Egypt 4-1 in the quarter-finals on Friday.

Surely thats a mistake. Surely they meant kept it from the rest of the squad, not the player himself. Hope so anyway.

RIP little Lua Lua :rip:

That's rough. Surely they weren't keeping it from him. And he's only just recovered from malaria too.

Sympathies to him and the rest of his family.

Sad news. RIP.

That report does make it sound like he really didn't find out until Sunday though. :(

I find keeping the news from him and the team somewhat disturbing, the mans son had died ffs, the least you can do is help him through this at let him be with the family that no doubt, also need him.

very sad news

RIP

The way it was reported on the news today, is that Lua Lua was somehow prevented from finding out about the death of his son. Not quite sure how they would do this - but if it is true, it's absolutely disgusting.

It's just unbelievable if that is the case.

That's one of the biggest scandals I have ever heard of.

My deepest heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved familiy.

Obviously, God needed an angel.

Thats terrible if the news was kept from him for so long, his poor wife must have been in bits. Wasnt he and his family subjected to death threats after the last African Nations? Football really isnt that important in the grand scheme of things :rip:

Didn't this happen in the Olympics a few years ago?

I'm sure that a gymnast or a swimmer had the death of a relative kept from them...

Anyone remember?

I seem to think she was Chinese, but I might be wrong...
