Who has the final say when it comes to transfers?

I can't believe Ged demanded we buy Cisse at whatever cost. Somebody in the board surely must make some sort of evaluation of the commodity that the manager wants, someone (or some people) who are good with money AND know their football.

Cisse is not worth £14M, Diouf was not worth £10M, Diao and Cheyrou not worth the amount we paid...who decides these things? 'cos they've f*cked up several times now, and they should be taken to task over it. At least that person had the sense to not pay Real £17M for Owen, probably his wisest decision ever.

Xabi is worth a lot more than £10m, Luis is worth more than £6m, Sissoko is worth more than £5.6m, Finnan is worth more than £3.5m, Hyypia is worth more than £2.3m, Riise is worth more than £4.5m, Reina is worth more than £6m etc etc

Every transfer is a risk, some come off some don't.

Parry doesn't pick the signings. He just makes the deal. You can't blame Parry for Cisse.

But he sanctions the money and sets the budget, or the non budget at the moment.

Parry doesnt scout the players so i doubt he would be able to say yes or no if the money is there.

I would presume it goes something like this although not in this order.

1. Rafa picks his targets.

2. Parry tells him how much we have to spend.

3. Rafa then juggles a bit and names the ones he really wants within the boundaries of our budget.

4. Parry goes and does the dealing.

5. We miss out.

Who? The only players we've "missed out" on since Rafa came in are Owen, Simao and to a far lesser extent Walcott. Most on here seem to agree with out conduct in each transfer.

I would find it surprising and disturbing if we've only missed out on 3 three players during Rafa's brief reign.

I admit i know feck all about transfer dealings, but i would imagine and hope that somewhere in that list, Rafa sets a price for the player. Having watched the player over a period of time, only he and maybe the scouts would be able to put a price on the player. I would hate to think that once Rafa identifies the player, Parry makes the bid based on what budget we have. Surely Rafa would have some say in what we bid or later agree to pay for a player??

I'm sure Rafa is involved in the deal after handing it over the Parry, Parry probably comes back to him and says "this is how much they're asking for, is he worth it? etc.

"Missed out" suggests we f***ed up the deal, someone asking for too much money isn't really missing out, we've had far more successes than failures in the transfer market during the last two years

I honestly don't know how the wheelings and dealings are made, I make assumptions from what I'm told by people who are fairly clued up.

Don't forget Rafa publicy identified a centre half and right winger in the summer, we have only just got our centre half now.

What I mean is that I would prefer that Rafa had a list as long as your arm for players, to think the list is so short scares me.

I'm sure he does, but the only positions we've been looking to strengthen that we've struggled with have been RM and CB and we were looking for something pretty specific, not just any RM or CB, but a RW with certain attributes (pace, the ability to beat people, score goals and cross well) and a CB who was good enough to challenge two of the best in Europe. The list for each of those roles probably isn't very long.

Fair point, but I'm not sure it's that cut and dried.

I wasn't exicted at him signing as I knew it was the end for Emile.
