A long time pal of mine was complaining to me about a sore back and abdomen pains. Mentioned this to the Missus and she immediately went to see him … hospital etc.  Turns out he is riddled with cancer, bones, pancreas, liver, kidneys…. He’s f***ed.  He has a wife and a very small family circle and, as such, I try to see him in the Hospice Ward as often as possible- usually daily.  We have had some deep discussions about his impending death, the afterlife(?) his funeral playlist - many arguments and arrangements for him and his family post-mortem.

He’s in his mid 50’s and has all to live for. Grandchild, devoted wife and besotted son. A real time Greek tragedy playing out in front of our eyes. He has squealed like a Banshee when the pain outruns the meds but is consistently thankful for the help my wife and I have provided. He is in a McMillen ( God bless them) side ward and staff have said that anything goes. So we are planning a very soon to be held movie night; he is very erudite but has chosen Alien as his movie of choice. We plan to have popcorn, beer and vino on the night. I’ve already been shot down with the idea of a stripper.

Why oh why do great, kind and generous people die before their time? Makes no sense.
