I'm half way through Tim Pat Coogan's book. I keep having to put it down it makes me so sad and angry. It really was a genocide committed wilfully by truly evil people, I'd never really treated it as anything more than  a dreadful moment in time when an entire nation of people were betrayed by their masters, a neglectful bunch of colonizers who ran every aspect of their lives, but it was much more than just neglect. A deliberate cull to release land and depopulate to restructure farming to make more money. It wasn't simply a grossly inadequate response, it was welcomed as a necessarily cull.

I would urge anybody to read it but it is so harrowing, you've been warned.
