Drum kit

My youngest (aged 7) has an inking to play drums and I have been having a wee nosey about the Internet and saw many different starter kits but I was wondering if adding the extra money and getting a basic electronic one would save my sanity.

Obviously I am gonna make sure he goes to lessons etc before I actually buy him anything, I am only really having a look at the moment.

So, would it be better for me and all concerned to get an electronic set or are they just a fad
