where do we reckon that is - Marble Arch?

I reckon that looks like somewhere between Trafalgar Square and the start (western fringes of the?) city

Aldgate maybe?

why though? more likely Fleet Street or Victoria

I thought it was by the big house going up the hill by the Adelphi.

Obviously it's not. ;)

I just checked the current number 11 bus route

it does indeed go to Aldwych, Trafalgar Sq and Victoria....my sense of excitement mounting as the red line went East to West

but then the f***** dipped down and swerved Shepherds Bush and ended up at Fulham Broadway

so maybe it used to go to Shepherds Bush

FAO Mike re Liverpool maps

My link

My link

Second link to a lot of local history books with some good maps in them.

I love maps and globes

but only from a specific era, around 1930 onwards

and not in weird colours; my favourite would be circa 1960 in glorious technicolour

any ideas? I want one of each for my new office

That's a decent one. You can bid online during the sale or go to it. Lovely little auction house just down from the Eagle & Child where Tolkien and CS Lewis used to have a pint.

Or get this one, which appears to have been catalogued by the Steptoes

My link

There's also one being sold tomorrow ( 31st ) at Partridge's in Macclesfield.

Loads of them about.

I imagine you with one of those globe wine coolers. Not the cheap repros but an authentic one.

I didn't read this post in time and the globe was sold for £30! and that's the colour I want and it included brass thingys, although I'm not sure what they are for

Those modern art deco style travel posters are great, too.

I've got a good few art deco travel posters

a lot of lithos of maître de l'affiche type stuff too

but I want a map of the world from between 1930 and 1960s, 150cm long x 120cm high, or thereabouts

I already have a bigger one than that at home but it's not period...lots of new countries around that didn't used to exist, I've noticed
