Brazil fire

Most live music venues & nightclubs here use a tab/ticketing system for drinks, as a condition of licensing.

It can be a nuisance for the unaccustomed; you can't pay for individual drinks you must pay on the way out at a kiosk, if you lose your ticket you have to pay an arbitrary "maximum" amount. It is rumoured, but not confirmed, that security had locked the fire exits to stop people leaving without paying, making evacuation extremely difficult. Way over capacity too.

It also appears that the clubs license expired last August.

Place like that in Prague a few years ago. Massive Ukrainians on the doors with guns. More inside.

Was a really relaxing pint

Sounds horrific what's happened in Brazil.

You see, this is why we have Heath and safety laws. Not to restrict people from making money but to prevent as far as is possible people dying for no reason.

I was going to post the same thing.

Absolutely horrible this. Doesn't bear thinking about. That system with the drinks is nuts, Christ knows who thinks its a good idea.

Absolutely right, much as the Daily Mail and the like want to convince everyone its about spilling hot drinks and slipping in your garden.

Harrowing stuff watching prople trying to break down doors and walls from the outside to let people out.

Which lends more weight to what Niemeyer was saying about the fire exits being locked. Awful.

it's the same system in bars and clubs here in thailand and it's a lovely idea when it's not abused by a******s. dark nightclubs with only one entrance/exit though, the fire doors chained and padlocked? hundreds panicking to get out the one door? horrible, doesn't bear thinking about.

I've seen the same thing in clubs in Italy and it's nuts, IMO. Try to remember how much you've spent when you're half cut? Then terrified of losing the scrap of paper. Don't see the point.

It doesn't mean they can just treat people like s*** in fear of them legging it, obviously.

i think it works fine in bars and restaurants etc but the minute you do it in a club it's a recipe for disaster really. pissed a******s legging it without paying a bill abuse the setup, club owners respond by doing the fire exit locking thing. was in a club in bangkok a few years ago and saw that a back fire exit was chained shut so we left there straight away.
