sporting heroes

Talking about heroes and iconic commentators over in the stuart hall thread got me thinking...sporting heroes.

 

Who is yours, and why? non-football, as King Kenny is taken as a given.

 

For me, no question David Gower, I worshipped his batting as a kid, and would be really upset if he got out early or got a bad decision (I'm still cross about him being given out caught down the legside in Australia in 82-83 when he had about 18. well and truly strangled, bat was miles away from the ball)

 

So many brilliant innings and just so gorgeous to watch, his fallibility outside off stump was part of the charm, and when he was going you just couldn't wish to see a more elegant cover drive
