Rioting in North London - Tottenham

Recommended Posts

Some disturbances in North London tonight. Police vans set on fire and general disorder being reported on Sky News.

Just waiting for Harry Redknapp to appear on camera to tell us all which players he's not really interested in and that he never comments on other club's players.

Who are these people who wait for a protest to use it as a pretext for some looting.

Always these mindless thugs who go too far, worse still these organised trouble makers. The public in general could never be so angry about something

But they want answers and some carpet, trainers and a mobile phone!

From what I can gather, family and friends of the dead man were unhappy at the amount of contact and information they have had from the police and decided to hold a peaceful protest outside the local police station whilst the family went in to speak to someone senior. Nobody senior was available. The crowd grew and changed as many of the original ones went home, replaced by a lot of kids on the promise of some bother which duly kicked off with firebombs and bricks. As this goes on, looting breaks out with people pulling up in cars, using shopping trolleys and helping themselves, and this spreads a mile or two down the road where there are more shops in Wood Green. The police mainly held a line not allowing it to go south and will no doubt be using CCTV to round up people in the coming weeks to go with the 42 they lifted, as has become the tactic.

Rumoured trouble in Enfield and Brixton

Jeez there's a reggae festival in Brixton today, a couple of our friends have gone with their daughter. This is just an excuse to go lootin, the little sh*tbags.

Enfield? Odd, it's not actually that logistically close for being a few miles North (Brixton is the other side of London completely), and is chopped off from anywhere else. Maybe it's just copy cat stuff

It's quite a leafy suburb too, hardly the mean streets. Mind Brixton is up market these days in comparison to 20 years ago.

Seems to have been the trigger for a load of others to go out and have a go in pockets all over the place, as it looks, superficially at least, that you'll not get nicked.

They wont get nicked tonight but the police practice is to watch CCTV and go and knock on doors at a later date

True, but that doesn't seem to be getting across as a deterrent.

Double edge sword . Do they go in and risk inflaming the situation and have the media pull them to bits or just pick them up with no fuss .

Why do you seem so confident that the police will be able to just pick people up from CCTV pictures? How clear are the images?
