Coal fires vs Gas

[Ed the Wool]

Had a chimney sweep round the other day to open the fire place up. Had been planning to get a 'real' gas fire, but he asked if I'd considered coal. Said it is miles cheaper, much hotter, better because you get fresh air in the house, and much cosier.

 

Anyone gone the coal route recently or have a view?
