Rome or Barcelona?

My best friend moved back to New York and we're thinking of meeting up sometime end of the year for a gf's week to catch up. Nothing fancy planned, just a city we've both not been to walk around, sit and chat with a few drinks... the choices so far are Rome or Barcelona (has to be Europe coz it's midway for both of us) Any suggestions other than the 2 so far?

 

ps Milan was nixed coz it would have been too much temptation for both of us.
