Question for someone at SoS

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Much has been made of the finances of SoS recently and the response (if I am not mistaken) has been to wait until the AGM, when the Financials will be made available for all to see.

My question is "when is the AGM?"

Thought I might start a new thread so that it doesn't drown in the mass of bullsh** that seems to follow SoS questions around.

It's an important question, don't you think?

Personally, I would hope that an AGM is planned and the Agenda is being worked on as a matter of top priority.

I am very keen to know when the AGM is - or just as importantly, when the next meeting is. surely one needs arranging to review the success of tomorrow's march, and next steps? IMHO, this ought to be already set up - say for next Saturday, so the momentum can be maintained

No point having more and more meetings (IMO). It just increases the backlog of meeting minutes that need to be published.

I don't speak for SOS but I believe a lot of what they are doing is geared towards the AGM.

I don't speak for them, but as the SOS was set up in February, I'd imagine some time after then.

You don't have to wait a year to hold your first AGM - in fact, I'd say that if that was the intention of the SoS, then it'd be suicide.

Excellent. I hope you're right.

But without another meeting, nothing can (presumably) happen. The organisation would be pointless. Unless lots of things are already planned - which we'd know if only we could see the minutes of the last meeting :hmm:

And other people believe getting the Yanks out is a top priority, others think supporting the team is priority, and others thing getting out of towners behind us is a priority.

For what it's worth I agree with you, but with so many different opinions out their and each saying one is more important than the other, the Union first needs people to sign up to force such notions/actions through.

If you're suggesting that communication could be improved

An AGM is desperately required - it could/should be the catalyst to give the Union a very clear direction with elected officials working towards the efficient execution of a very clear plan of action. This clarity will also, hopefully, encourage an expansion in member numbers.

That is what I am hoping for.

Getting rid of the Owners is the goal - holding an AGM is an important step in organising the Union and ensuring that a clearly defined plan can be executed in pursuit of that goal.

Supporting the team is a given.

Getting OOTs behind "us" is something that can best be achieved (in my opinion) following an AGM (for reasons posted here and in previous posts).

Exactly, it should be ASAP so that it's focused on specific aims which have been democratically agreed eg Getting rid of G&H is the main aim.

If in a few months things change ie those 2 idiots sod off - an EGM can be called to decide on what the new direction would be.

Swansea??

I'm not going there

Can someone just post the minutes please

If they were on an active recruitment drive for new members and you posted the question on an appropriate "NUT Supporters Forum" which was frequenetd by their senior committee members, do you really think you'd be ignored?

I don;t think senior committee members do frequently post on here

And i wouldnt say you have been ignored. You only asked the question an hour and a half ago

Committee members (or spokespeople) are most definitely registered on here - otherwise I wouldn't bother asking the question here.

I agree I most certainly have not been ignored - but others have asked the question and, as far as I know, no answer has been forthcoming.

I am asking the question from a stance of wanting what is best for the success of the SoS - I suspect you think I am asking for some other reason, or with some kind of ulterior motive?? I can assure you that's not the case. The very best thing that the SoS can do now is call an AGM.

On the flip-side of what many people actually think, I believe that there are many fans out there looking for reasons to join (as opposed to looking for excuses not to). If they are keen to increase their membership numbers (which I presume they are??) SoS should be totally focussed on giving people every reason to join. I hope that is what they do.
