A few weeks ago someone phoned claiming to have a ships logbook signed by Nelson and other officers involved in events leading upto and during the Battle Of Copenhagen. Shortly after his battle, Sir Hyde Parker ' stepped down ' after hesitating an advance of the fleet up the Baltic Sea and Nelson took over command. The rest is history

As with all phone calls like this, i was polite, obviously interested and sold the saleroom as the right place for such an item. On putting the phone down i said to a colleague " If that's for real, i'll swim the channel "

Well today i've spent a good couple of hours reading an astonishing journal written by an injured sailor onboard a vessel involved in one of the most important battles before Trafalgar. Charting their movements in the year before the battle and then written with first hand eye witness accounts and signed by Nelson himself. Even wind directions are mentioned when being under fire from the French shore canons whilst passing through the Channel and running aground and heading back to Falmouth whilst repairing a hold in the bilge.

Bloody marvellous day ! :D
