Help please

Yes I know it's a daft question but I'm clueless about things like this.

 

My missus has bought some wall lights, they're marked up with 40w bulb, which would make them too dim for our hallway, so.....

 

Can I put 100w in them or would they blow up and set fire to my eyebrows?
