Naming of stadia/cups has been stated before but at 23:00 on a Wednesday night this made me laugh. FFS. What is happening in this world (Or a least in the U.S......for now)?!?

The Offal..

"Liverpool's reserves have completed their group games in the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup with a 9-0 thrashing of Japanese outfit Ryutsu Keizai Kashiwa.

Craig Lindfield, Ray Putterill and Emiliano Insua all netted twice while Mikel San Jose, Ryan Flynn and Gerardo Bruna were also on target as Gary Ablett's men made it three wins from three in Super Group B to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

They will now face a combined Sporting Lisbon and Benfica side in the last four of the competition at the Pizza Hut Stadium at 9pm on Friday evening. "

Well it looks like we're facing two teams at once. 22 v 11. How fair is that?

well england beat Trinidad and Tobago at the world cup so it can be done

Of course, we've never heard of the Coca-Cola Cup, the Milk Cup, Worthington Cup, Barclays Premiership, Nationwide League, Emirates Stadium, Walkers Bowl, Reebok Stadium, Ricoh Arena, JJB stadium or the Everton Little Helps (open 8 til late match days) checkout stadium, have we?

No great fan of Uncles Sam crass commercialism, but glasshouses and all that.

you want the world class managers? players? facilities? Want to test the reserves against other sides so they get experience.

Unless you are prepared to pay 100 quid a ticket for every game then you gotta do the sponsership. ready for Anfield to have a label on it... because it will have. Want to protest? try telling the club that it shouldn;t be paying players 50K a week - because thats where the money goes. and if that happens then off go the players. I hate it - but at least I try to understand it.

Is correct Mike. I don't begrudge the players the money on the whole - maybe a few, though...but anyway, they are not all that clever mostly and have what is essentially a short career even if successful, during which time everything they do, everywhere they go, everyone they see is subject to massively intrusive scrutiny. Tom Cruise gets paid a lot more for being crap, after all, as did/does Schwarzenegger and a whole legion of awfuls busily tackling their sometimes demanding six months on, nine months off schedules. Good and bad in both worlds, just that now Football, which is massively popular worldwide and the prem in particular, is rivalling the Hollywood lot.

Yeah I totally agree but I'm sure a packet of Walkers (4g of Saturated fat) or a pint of milk is far healthier! ;-)

Just thought it sounded insane and reinforced certain stereotypes of our brothers over there (and ok, here too). Isn't marketing ace?!

Just searched for the tournament, we won, although I can't find the score against Tigres in the final. We scored 21 goals in our first 3 games though, so it seems like most teams were a bit out of their depth against us.

Though this, from the Dallas Cup blog was a bit odd:

"Really, there were too many strong performances to mention as the the Bosnian side was out of its element from the start. Maybe the Reds were inspired by Tommy Hicks' appearance to kick out the ceremonial first ball. (Tommy Hicks, of course, is the son of Tom Hicks, whose holdings include the Rangers, the Stars and Liverpool FC.)"

Assume he was wearing the opposition shirt to "gee on" the lads
