saw a snippet in an aussie paper yesterday about some geezer who's on trial for possessing child pornography.

the offensive material in question was a story recounting explicit details of a sexual act between two underage boys.

now, given that the defendant hasn't been charged with any other offence relating to minors it could be argued he's on trial for 'impure thoughts'. if it were for sexual images featuring kids, fair enough - children should not be sexualised, much less should adults profit from creating a market for it.

i was pretty shocked that someone can be prosecuted for what they choose to read or fantasise about - that's censorship.

after further discussion, i learned that a book on euthanasia was banned in australia a few years ago.

is there any justification for criminalising such literature, or am i missing something?
