What is the point of the cup tieing rule?

Suppose it's because it would seem strange if you were allowed to alter your squad during a tournament in which you play 6 or 7 games.

It's not that tricky, Will. It is to stop teams getting to a Final (or Semi) and drafting in loads of new players to improve their chances of winning.
