Driving on the left.

Was on hols in Italy last week and hired a car. I always take to driving on the right very easily but my problem comes when I get back here. Although I drive about 30-35,000 miles a year on our roads, after I've been driving on the continent or in America, I always want to continue on the right when I get home. Strange?

 

And one time, we were in Colorado and ordered a taxi to take us into Boulder. Taxi turns up and I go to get in the drivers' seat. The driver looked at me funny but I explained about how we drive in the UK and it was an easy mistake to make. He clearly had never heard this before and refused to believe me. Try as we all might, we could not convince him that we drive on the left. He stated that if we drove on the left, we would constantly be craching into each other! When we finally did get some level of understanding, he stated that he would never ever travel to Britain as he would be too scared to cross a road!

 

I've also heard Americans on Heathrow-bound flights as we fly over London shout out in surprise that there are people down there driving on the wrong side of the road.
