Looking to Buy a Labrador

I am planning to buy a labrador as a family pet...

 

There are quite a lot of breeders out there (http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/asp/PSAR/psar-search.asp?breed=Retriever+%28Labrador%29&loc=9). It would take a while to phone them all! As it would be my first dog I am not too sure what I would be looking out for when phoning people up, but other people's experience may prove more useful. Does anyone have any personal recommendations or breeders they have used in the past?

 

I live in Liverpool, but I do not mind travelling a fair distance for a decent breeder!
