anfield11 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 That we are still in for Alves. What a difference he would make for our RM
smicer07 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 He's put more bad crosses in tonight than Pennant has all season.
anfield11 Posted March 3, 2007 Author Posted March 3, 2007 He's put more bad crosses in tonight than Pennant has all season. And laid on the first and just scored a cracking freekick. But you'd rather have Pennant?
spacemonkey Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Bit of a drama queen though. Should learn to use that physique of his a bit more and stop brandishing imaginary yellows. Also looks better going forwards than defensively for me.
LondonLiverpoolFan Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Who's the ref sent off now? Guily and Zambrotta for Barca and one Sevilla player as well?
Nebraska Red Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Toothpick off for Edmilson as Sevilla go for the killer goal. Ref is terrible.
RafaShanks Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 He's put more bad crosses in tonight than Pennant has all season. We need a younger right back as Finnan isn't getting any younger, so Alves and Pennant could be playing in tandem.

George Costanza Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Alves is never a right back though. neither was Cafu yet he didn't do too bad for umpteen years and Alves is even better. Him and Gerrard down the right would be f***ing awesome
jfogarty Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Ronaldinho didn't go off with an injury did he? No
£440,000 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Overheard today that Alves is having English lessons. That may or may not be significant.
LondonLiverpoolFan Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 (edited) neither was Cafu yet he didn't do too bad for umpteen years and Alves is even better. That's some feckin statement! Alves is good but to say that he's better than Cafu is stretching it slightly. That's not to say he won't ever be, I just don't think he is at the moment. Edited March 3, 2007 by LondonLiverpoolFan

That's not to say he won't ever be, I just don't think he is at the moment. It is but its something in my opinion that is right. Cafu was always suspect defensively, Alves although far from polished is better defesnively. No matter who he's playing agaisnt he seems to impose him on his opponent rather than the other way around. His crossing tonight was beow par but he still was arguably Sevilla's best attacking threat. f***ign crazy considering he was supposed to be marking Messi.
Nebraska Red Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Alves is not what we need, he is more like an old fashioned wing back than a full back or winger. He does not look that strong defensively from what I have seen of him.
£440,000 Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Alves is not what we need, he is more like an old fashioned wing back than a full back or winger. It seems Rafa would disagree. If he wants to come and we're willing to pay the money Sevilla want then it'll happen. Rijkaard was asked about Barca buying him after the game tonight and he batted the question aside saying he was only there to talk about the game. I read an article today headlined, "Alves, the Barca fan's nghtmare and dream."
hideNseek Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 He's put more bad crosses in tonight than Pennant has all season. Christ, wonders will never cease.
Guest Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 440,000 is right, as usual - Alves is indeed having English lessons. He's been having them since September stopped at Christmas and restarted last month. How anyone can criticise a player who was everywhere yesterday is beyond me. He played right back, right midfield, centre forward and centre midfield. He got Guily so wound up that the Frenchman lost control and spent most of the game screaming at Alves and kicking his ankles. Rafa is still after him as are Barca. Rijkaard is not particularly keen though.
Owen1978 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I would have him at right back, with a player like quaresema in front of him - they would rule the right hand side. He does'nt have the flair and tricks of a proper right winger imo, i think ppl have to get off this bandwagon of can they defend blah blah blah! Let the other team worry about defending when they come up against those two players i mentioned above. One thing you forget is the Alves has pace, which would compensate for him being caught out sometimes as the could easily catch them up like ashley cole does.
alias75 Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 What about Alves and Gerrard down the right side good luck stopping those 2. (By the way that isnt a slight on Finnan whos still one of our key players, but i really think Alves would add a different dimension to our attack)
