Street-Porter facing race claims

Broadcaster Janet Street-Porter has been arrested over claims she racially abused a neighbour.

Ms Street-Porter, a former newspaper editor and regular face on TV, was questioned after attending a north London police station by appointment.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said she was bailed pending further enquires.

Ms Street-Porter, 59, was head of youth and entertainment features at the BBC in the 1980s, and appeared on ITV1's I'm A Celebrity in 2004.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "On 16 January, a 59-year-old woman attended a north London police station by appointment and was arrested in connection with an alleged racially aggravated public order offence.

"She was later bailed to return in February pending further inquiries."

Ms Street-Porter is vice-president of the Ramblers' Association and is a fellow of the Royal Television Society (RTS).
