Oh good. That'll shrink his ego.

What is your problem?

Not that it'll go down with your typical royalist scouser mind :D

:hooked: Nice and fresh, too. ;)

You do go on about it still though

He made a mistake. Fair dos. Dealt with in my opinion

Well i haven't sung his name since and i'd like him to show a bit more when we play the bigger teams

. I just hate the " whitewashing " that accompanies him. Some fans refuse to accept he's ever had a bad game, is the best player in the world and we should be honoured that he pulls on a red shirt every weekend.

So you go the absolute opposite and refuse to sing the name of the bloke who won us the FA Cup virtually single handed and dragged the club to it's greatest achievement in over 15 years and arguably more instead?

Isn't that even more bizarre?

Well i don't believe he did either single handedly. He only showed some cojones against Olympiakos when we were back in the game, he was terrible in Istanbul until Didi came on but then produced some stunning football and he was excellent in the FA Cup final towards the end but was matched, possibly outplayed, by Reo Coker beforehand and Reina kept us in the FA Cup too.

I realise his talents but refuse to sing his name.

That assessment is frankly bizarre.

That FA cup final everybody had stopped. Cramped up, couldn't run. Even he went down. He got back up and kept running and scored us that goal.

And until Didi came on everybody was crap. Or Milan were outstanding. Depends on your point of view.

Steven Gerrard did not " win us the FA Cup virtually single handed ". Milan were great, we were s**t.

In my opinion, Gerrard has had too many poor performances or half games in our biggest matches to be talked of as the greatest player in the world. Against Olympiakos he was poor until we were already back in the game, and the selfish t**t could have been sent of for lashing out at one of their players.

Also, i don't believe all the stuff he came with during the contract talks about feeling as if Parry and Rafa didn't want him.

He's on fantasy money playing for the club i love and he wants to leave - twice ?!

Sorry but i doubt i'll ever sing his name again.

I bet he is still, at heart, 99% of liverpool's supporters favourite player.

I support liverpool for what happens on the pitch...this guy has had me out of my chair and spilling my pint more times than any other.

I am exectpionally proud that Steven Gerrard plays for Liverpool.

He is our player, our flagship and our captain.

Yet you couch your initial statement as a reaction to "whitewashing".

This clearly is not the case - you clearly hold a grudge for something. I'm not going to argue against the statement that he massively f***ed up, he clearly did.

But since then he's conducted himself with class and dignity and has said all of the right things. And he is out best player however you look at it, our best player who has been integral in winning 2 major trophies for the club in the last 2 seasons.

Possibly, The whitewashing just aggrevates it.

You said he virtually won it single handed, then say integral. I'd agree with integral but i did not agree with the former and i think i gave decent enough reasons why.

It's a team game. Single handed is very difficult to achieve so I've moved away from hyperbole.

He got f***ing close to single handed in the FA cup final though, in my view.

An attempt to lighten up the mood in this thread: Jeeeeez!!!

I think it's an interesting discussion tbh.

Not bad for a post midnight footy discussion, that's for sure!

I thought he was poor early on and then, after Cisse scored, improved and finished the game the immense player many people think he is for 90 minutes every match.

Often, he seems to need players around him to inspire him, which is a strange attribute for a captain.

He has high standards. In the FA cup final, he directly set Cisse up for his goal, scored the other 2, 1 of which was a wonder goal, and scored in the shoot out. I would say that is a massive contribution. As close to single handed as a team game gets.

I know what you mean by that. Sometimes he needs a catalyst to get going. He's certainly far from unique in that respect. And he's often the catalyst himself.

For example.... It was him that put Cisse through, wasn't it?

You just want to meet the f***ing queen.

Any OM's ma jokes will be deleted with extreme prejudice.

It was a superb pass to Cisse but it was the first time i thought Gerrard had done anything ( might be wrong as i was very merry by that time )

I admit that the two summers have had an influence on how i look at him but i don't think it's blind hatred or anything like - if it was, i wouldn't have said the way he finished the final was immense

Posted

We'd be a poorer team without him. His performances can be a bit patchy and he has wrestled with personal ambition over glory for Liverpool. All I can say is thank Christ he stayed.

I think he'll be a future manager of the club, too.

GK - As for not singing his name - then you're just showing that you are a bigger, moodier person than the one you're criticising. At least he snaps out of it and does the biz. What do you do? Sing other players names louder? Or just twiddle yer thumbs when the Steve Gerrard song is sung?

I agree sometimes he frustrates. But, in the FA cup final, I honestly think, he was exceptional. Put it this way, when the players went into the dressing room after the game, they all got on their hands and knees in a 'we're not worthy' thing, and a few of the senior players thanked him for winning them their medals.
