- Sami Hyypia used to be Liverpool captain

- Steven Gerrard is Liverpool captain

- Dirk Kuyt was captain at Feyenoord

- Craig Bellamy has been captain for Wales

- Lucas Neill is Blackburn captain

- I believe Xabi Alonso was Sociedad's captain before he came (please correct me if I'm wrong)

- Pepe Reina, Carragher and Fowler appear to be natural leaders

- We've been chasing Simao who's the Benfica captain

- I've probably forgotten some

Is this all down to coincidence? I don't know for sure, but I don't think so....

Don't forget we are signing the Arsenal captain too....

We'll do well to ever beat the 78/9 side in terms of having a team of natural leaders:

Clemence, Neal, Hansen, Thompson, A Kennedy, Case, McDermott, Souness, R Kennedy, Dalglish, Johnson.

There are 11 captains in that team..... the team I loved when I was just a small kid ;)

I know Fowler was captain, but Just cause someone wore the captain's armband doesn't make him a "natural leader"

I did write natural leaders AND captains - just to underline that a natural leader doesn't necessarily have to be a captain and the other way round...

From the Observer a while back...

"In January 2001, with Sociedad bottom of the league, new manager John Toshack recalled Alonso from a loan spell with neighbouring club Eibar. Alonso had been sent there by the former coach Javier Clemente (who in the meantime had been replaced by Alonso's father for a brief two-month spell before Toshack arrived). Alonso told his manager that he was 'not afraid of responsibility' and the Welshman made him captain in the hope of avoiding relegation. Alonso was 19. Sociedad stayed up".

So you don't think Robbie is a natural leader...? Can you explain why?

He was a fantastic striker, but his antics on and off the pitch weren't that of a leader.

don't include players we haven't signed, ffs.

I don't agree with you but that all comes down to the definition of a leader. He's always been a natural leader of the fans hasn't he? Been the fans voice on and off the pitch. In my eyes he's a leader cause he's not afraid to take responsibility and to walk head on into the storm as the first person and show by example...

Why not? The list is only there to show what we've got and what we're obviously going for.... Again the subject says 'we all dream of....' - not 'we already have'...

Because he f***s about and puts it all down to being "a working class lad from Toxteth" if his autobiography is anything to go by.

Ronaldinho is the vice captain at barca and Henry captains Arsenal. Happy days!

I doubt Rafa would say no if any of them would become available. The point is not only what we've already got but also what team Rafa's trying to put together and since we've been seriously linked with Neill as well as Simao who are both captains, I find it to be relevant information. If you don't like the subject, why bother commenting on it?

Danny Guthrie.... soon to be first team player...?

Would love to see him progress, but think it's unlikely. Possible squad member for a year or two, but i doubt he'll make the grade long term.

You never know. Some of these lads just grows with the pressure.... I remember Carra when he first came into the team and look at him now... hard to say..

I'd be surprised if he became any kind of profile, but he if does really well, I suppose there is a chance he could become our Darren Fletcher or something similar.
