Ebay question

I've just bought an LFC hip flask to replace the one that was lost on a French golf course a couple of weeks ago. I was happy with the price although after a last minute flurry of activity it went up by a fiver or so.

 

I dont know why my suspicions were aroused, but the seller had an identical one on sale last week which I was watching but forgot to bid on, this went for the same price as I have just paid. I looked at the bid history and the same name cropped up on both auctions, so I clicked on his bid history and it seems this guy only bids on auctions for my seller - he has 200 odd 'Cheers' replies from the seller so obviously what is happening is that the price is being artificially inflated at the last minute - he unfortunately wins some but also loses loads as the other bidders max price is not met.

 

Is this legit or has this one guy got an unhealthy obsession with pewter?
