I was thinking about this the other day and I believe that it would be a good idea to get prisoners out and about (Not the dangeous high-risk ones) helping the Environment that they live in.

There are plenty of areas in the UK where vandalism, rubbish and environmental problems occur.

As these people are staying at her majesties pleasure - why not have them doing something useful and beneficial to the country and to society?

We have tons of unsorted landfill with tons of recyclable material - but no-one sorts it out

Could engaging prisoners in this way be a good idea?

What would be the pros and cons (Apart from the obvious 'they might escape or commit crime')

Would such a policy help political parties to be re-elected or not elected?

What is the point of having this many people stuck in cells doing nothing when they could become very useful members of society doing good and hopefully being rehabilitiated..

Finally - has this ever been tried before and was it a success or a failure if it has - I would guess that it would cost more money to get prisoners out and about than leaving them in their cells...
