LondonLiverpoolFan Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Thought this article was fairly funny and provoked a decent debate over on RAWK. Wanted to see what was made of it over here. Read some of the Liverpool fan e-mails as well. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story...=simmons/060719
LondonLiverpoolFan Posted July 20, 2006 Author Posted July 20, 2006 Same reason they call their American football, Basketball and Hockey leagues the NFL, NBA and the NHL I guess....
Bald Devil Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 "During Angels games in baseball, the crowd waits to make noise until a monkey appears on the scoreboard" Monkeys see, monkeys do.
monkey puzzle Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 We really are so different to them aren't we?

Alonso Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 nah, mvp is an annual thing isn't it? We're both wrong. Player of the year I suppose.Dunno, in basketball they have an mvp for each game IIRC? Who knows!!
IgPig Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Dunno, in basketball they have an mvp for each game IIRC? Who knows!! either way its crap american b******s and a phrase that should not be used ever in anything to do with football.
deacon Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 This guy is a fantastic sports journalist, the stuff he writes on US sport is great. The stuff he writes on the NBA is miles ahead of anything written by any journalist on football. Given that I have been regularly reading his column for a year now, I was looking forward to this articles, which he has been building up for a while. Given he has no knowledge of the game, I thought it was a good attempt.
R A Softlad Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Why do Yanks insist on calling it the EPL? To distinguish from the other footy that's shown I guess.
Guest efcrmagic Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Americans and football? Like oil and water, doesn't mix.
Ste M Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Americans and football? Like oil and water, doesn't mix. Is right, on the whole.

Guest cm00 Posted July 23, 2006 Posted July 23, 2006 "They have a Kafka-reading, gigantic Dutchman of a coach named Martin Jol who (A) has brothers named "c**k" and "Dick2" (I'm not making this up), and (B) apparently talks just like Goldmember (in the third Austin Powers movie). Now there's someone who needs to be in my life."
