Rafael Benitez has given Florent Sinama-Pongolle hope by insisting no decision has been made regarding his future and he could still have a part to play at Liverpool.

The French Under-21 international ended last season on loan at Blackburn Rovers but Benitez feels he may still have a part to play at Liverpool.

Sinama-Pongolle was part of the France Under-21 team that reached the semi-finals of the European Championships and he was one of the star performers in the defeat by Holland.

"We have not made a decision on Sinama and we're in no hurry to do so," reflected Benitez.

"I will talk to him when he returns to pre-season training about the future. Sinama is a very good prospect who's always done well. He's been a key player for the French Under-21 side in the European Championships.

"Our scouts have been watching and the reports are very good. I know there are other clubs watching him, but they will have to wait because we are not trying to sell Sinama."

I'd be surprised if he had any great future here as well, but stranger things have happened :D Still, this is a good way of doing some touting without actually saying 'someone is for sale'.

Dave Usher said we won't be seeing him in a Reds shirt again a few months back.

I tend to agree with him.

I suspect that depends on who we buy

Or alternatively

'He has 3 years left on his contract, he is still a brilliant young prospect, don't see him fitting in here but he isn't going cheap so f***ing well pay up'

Can only hope that's what Rafa is thinking.

If we want to take the next step up, we need better.

Understandably Pongo wants more than bit parts but thats all he'll get here.

There have been a few quotes in the last week about our strikers such as Parry saying we have Kewell & Garcia who are "second strikers" and now Rafa saying we will keep Pongolle.

It wouldn't surprise me if we replaced Cisse & Morientes with just 1 front-line striker. Crouch, A N Other, Fowler, Pongolle, Kewell, Garcia wouldn't be bad provided we have plenty of options out wide.

I can see where your coming from here, it seems the priority up front is to bring in a front man with some gas, and then an alternnative to Crouch, if there is one available, so if there isn't one avaialble....

The problem with getting just one more striker is that all the alternatives to him and Crouch would be small players who need a larger player alongside them. For eg - we couldn't field a strike force of Fowler and Garcia. Fowler and FSP is a stretch too.

This is why I think we'd need to maybe buy another striker, unless of course FSP proves he is ready to make the next big step and be more of a regular option.
