Since when did managers need to have close personal relationships with players anyway? Their disagreement didn't seem to stop Xabi performing last season. If anything it took his game up a notch.

He likes to reminisce about the glory years but I don't think he particuarly rates Rafa or the current team and uses lazy media cliches about our style of football, rotation and 'starting Gerrard and Torres every week'. He was my hero as a player mind.

If he is truly unhappy and desperate to move, throwing in a transfer request would speed up that process. There's a lot of smoke and mirrors with these deals, and the gossip doesn't help. It wouldn't surprise me if it was simply about money than any real discontent.

So why doesn't he throw in a transfer request then and do more to force a move? You never really answered that before and just turned into a dig at Rafa.

Which is why he wouldn't love Xabi to throw in a transfer request and is pricing him out of any deal. Sorry, I'm not into Bascombe style conspiracy theories.

If he's truly unhappy why doesn't HE swallow his pride and throw in a transfer request and state that he can no longer work with the manager and wants a fresh challenge? Seems strange that a player who is desperate to leave is not doing more to force a move.

So somebody who's got issues with Rafa then? I'm sorry but it's just tough s***. He's one of our best players and we want top whack. If not, he'll soon buckle down when the seasons starts.

Rick? When has Xabi ever said he's unhappy here anyway? I thought that was just the agent/Madrid line and he'd be happy to stay if a move didn't materialise? There was even quotes from him recently about loving the city and looking forward to his 6th season.

Xabi will sit on the fence because he knows the club might accept a bid for him, and he doesn't want to sour the relationship with the fans if stays. Regardless of what Xabi wants, he's tied to a long term deal and any sale will be on our terms. Just because Madrid are bleating in the press doesn't mean we cave in and sell below our valuation.

Saw that before, stood outside OT. He's always got a downer on us these days, which fits in nicely with Sky's agenda. He even threw in the 'one man team' one in regards to Gerrard.

Mascharano's agent mouthing off again. I'm pretty sure Rafa made our intentions clear a few weeks ago. I think he's just after a new improved deal.

Rafa feeds him dribs and drabs when it suits but probably keeps his distance on a personal level. I doubt they have anything more than a good professional relationship.

He's just a professional wind up with a chip on his shoulder about LFC. There's rumours that he's the same guy who runs Republik of Mancunia. Don't give him the publicity he craves.

Ballague does seem to think he's the oracle on all things LFC. It certainly isn't any of his business to tell Rafa how to conduct his transfer dealings and he should stick to the facts.

I don't think I ever paid the full price when I was with Setanta, so it was never a huge burden. I doubt ESPN will be offering similar discounts and you're looking at 80 quid a season, more if you keep it all year round. I thought the whole point of ending the Sky monopoly of the coverage was to aid the consumer, yet we're being ripped off more than ever.
