I would have never said finnan was one dimensional. I used to love how he would dummy a cross with his right, then cut in and deliver it from his left. Always had teh oppposing full back in knots.

I don't think he was an alternative to barry, more like that rafa hoped that by selling alonso he could afford barry and someone else (like riera). It is just that the Barry/Alonso economics never stacked up in the end. Instead we have riera and the better central midfielder. And we live happily ever after.

If signing Gareth Barry means that Xabi needs to be sold I have to ask myself one question: Why on earth are we signing Gareth Barry? Normally at a time when I look to the new season with eternal optimism, I think I am already starting to lose interest.

I for one wouldn't mind a straight swap of Milner for Pennant. Milner is a player I have quite admired every time I have seen him play, and I certainly think he would look a lot better in a better team. He is not flashy, but certainly could play a role similar to Bowyer's when he was in his pomp for leeds. I don't think we will get any more out of Pennant than what we have seen and given Milner's age I think he would be worth a punt as a squad player. Sometimes I think people are expecting to only sign a player who's ability looks good in a 3 minute youtube clip. That being said, I would be dissapointed if we was to be brought in as our first choice for RM.

Pace doesn't necessairly mean a player is any good. I can't think of one striker who is as fast/quicker than torres who is also a better forward. This discussion is therefore moot.

I think our signing of attacking players is now over. Rafa told Babel that he was competing with 6 others for four positions. If we sign another winger that would mean someone (probably kewell) will have to leave. A defender is all we will get.
