Yep. Lucas will help, as will Gerrard (as an attacking threat). But we need a finisher (probably two) and a real class act to partner Lucas, like Alonso, Martinez or a cheaper alternative someone like Elm.
-
As a fourth choice - yes. We have Europe next season so will need a bigger squad. If Kuyt leaves and Bellamy is used wide again next season we'll only have Carroll and Suarez. I think a top class finisher and someone like Yakubu or Forlan would improve us significantly. You can never have too many finishers, we only have Suarez and IMO he is more of a creator than a clinical finisher.
-
Our main problems have been finishing. We've had lots of possession in most games, especially at Anfield and created loads of chances but our finishing has been dreadful. Someone like Fowler would have got 25 goals for us this season. The difference between our side and Arsenal this season was they had RVP and we had Carroll. Yes we need to improve on Downing and a boss CM to partner Lucas would be great as well. But for me unless you have a finisher, you won't win many matches. I agree with that. I like the look of Elm.
-
I agree with all that, although I'd put Carroll in the develop group with Kelly, Coates, Henderson, Shelvey and Stelring. He doesn't get enough goals to be our first choice yet.
-
Why? Carroll got what six goals this season? We need a finisher to partner Suarez and Carroll can therefore develop nicley (as a plan b to start with). Yes we need more quality out wide, but our strikers have missed so many chances this season.
-
We need a finisher more than anything. One CM, one top wide player (also promoting Sterling), one top class finisher.
-
I don't think there is much wrong with the tactics either.
-
There is a Liverpool Way on the pitch and one off it. The pass and move is on it. Yes with your last sentence and a manager who defends the club and the players and fans, unlike Hodgson.
-
I agree, scoring goals is essential and I have always said that. But I am not going to say we are a bad team and everything is wrong and we need a total overhaul, when I don't think it is the case. We are doing a lot of things right and a few shrewd signings in the summer, getting match winenrs to help Suarez, Bellamy and hopefully a fit Gerrard and we could see a totally different team next season. The league has been poor, no doubt, but there have been positives despite the league position and results.
-
Yes pass and move football. We didn't hear about sackings until they happened. I agree the Suarez thing was a mess, but FSG look like they have sacked Cotton for that!
-
I haven't said we have been unlucky. I said we haven't been clinical. We haven't got a finsiher in the squad IMO. Suarez for me is more of a support striker (a number 10, rather than a number 9). We are a worse team than all the Benitez teams, because we aren't clinical and as you say the table doesn't lie. But I think we play better football than we did under Benitez (bar 2008/9).
-
Dalglish is trying to get it back by playing football the right way, with pass and move football. Also doing our business behind closed doors. It is our fans who have lost The Liverpool Way and don't understand YNWA IMO.
-
I didn't mean on here to be fair, when talking about slagging him off. However people on here are forgetting the good he has done since he has been here and are only remmebering the bad (the league table). I went on .tv and read Dalglish's view of the match today. The comments below were disgusting. What do you mean I only want to apply the Liverpool Way when it suits me? I didn;t say amazing football. But yes, we have on the whole played some very good football this season, far better than most seasons under Benitez (2008/9 apart). Just a shame it hasn't been winning football and we haven't been clinical.
-
I would, consider it. I don't relate to a lot of LFC fans it seems anymore and people chant YNWA, but then slag off our manager. The Liverpool Way used to be about support, loyalty, backing the manager and team through thick and thin - through storms. Now our fans are more critics than supporters. But it is not just that, the whole of football is getting to me - the diving, the money, the play acting etc etc. I said scrutiny is fine. Calling for the managers head after getting to two finals, the way we have played this season and given what Dalglish has done for us is very different IMO.
-
I'm sure I said some clever a*** will say Hodgson... Hodgson was inept in every aspect of the job and didn't have the CV for the job in the first place.
-
No s*** the table doesn;t lie, I haven't said otherwise. I said it doesn't tell the whole story, like us being good defensively, having lots of possession, passing well and creating loads of chances. I bet you called Lucas and Skrtel average. I personally think Henderson will turn out to be a star for us as will Coates... but who knows the future will decide that. But fans don't want to be patient they want everything NOW! I disagree about the midfield. We have had plenty of possession in most games so it can;t be dreadful.. I think managers deserve time, unless things are awful and that is not the case. The performances and cup runs show that is not the case.

Our squad is significantly stronger. But the problem is our first team isn't. Last summer remember as fans we all said - depth was the problem. We were delighted with the performances and results. The depth is far better, but what we now need is a couple more match winners to really enhance the first team. But I genuinely belive if we had a finisher this season we'd be top four. People look at the table and assume everything is doom and gloom. But it doesn'ttell the whole story. But Dalglish didn't negotiate the fees, Comolli did and got sacked as a result. You;re always under scrutiny at LFC be it manager or player. But sacking a manager after one full season - that is not the Liverpool Way, Hodgson was an exception before some clever a*** says that.
-
No. He had his chance, six years, I think he was rightfully sacked at the time and have not changed that opinion. I hope we stick with Dalglish, but if we don't (if we don't I might consider not continue supporting us anymore - as I think the traditions and values of the club might have totally been lost) I would like to see a different manager given the job. Benitez had his chance and in six seasons we only had one title challenge. Given the players we had, it wasn;t good enough.
-
Sorry I thought we gave our managers time, silly me.

Seriously I don't get the transfer stick. We sold - Jovanovic, Poulsen, Degen, Itandje, Konchesky, El Zhar, Soto, Ngog. We bought - Doni, Henderson, Carroll, Downing, Bellamy, Enrique, Coates and Adam. Significant improvement. Only Downing has been a huge flop IMO. Carroll is show real promise recently, as is Henderson. Enrique, Bellamy, Doni, Coates all look shrewd buys and Adam has been average. People slagged off Benitez's signings as well (although they rave about him now), I never got that either. I had issue with Benitez but his transfers weren;t one of them. I think Dalglish has bought fairly well. Too early to judge a lot of those signings, such as Henderson and Carroll - in two years time they might look great buys, who knows. A little patience is needed, as we saw with Lucas and Skrtel.
-
They should be dull, Werner already backed Dalglish publically - don't see why he needs to do so again.

I think we have played some really good football, some of the best we have seen since Evans was at the club, bar one or two seasons. We have looked very good defensively and that is backed up by being the third best defensive record in the league, despite not having Lucas, our main tackler and protector. We have passed the ball really well and have had plenty of possession to win games, especially at Anfield (where our main problems have been). We have actually created a fair amount of chances, but we are just awful at converting them, not clinical at all. We've hit the woodwork far too much, missed the target and missed penalties... and they have all been guilty of doing it Suarez, Carroll, Downing, Gerrard... all of them (although some more than others). Without a finisher, you won't win many games and we have been punished by more clinical sides all season, despite them having less possession, creating less chances and generally playing worse football and I'd include Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal in that. No doubt we have had problems. Lucas / Gerrard missing most of the season, The Suarez ban, some new signings not impressing. Many of those things Dalglish can;t control, although I think he had an opportunity in January to get a back up for Lucas and a finisher to help Suarez / Carroll but didn't and it cost us. The cups were brilliant. We beat City, United, Chelsea between both cups and it was just a shame we didn't turn up for the first hour against Chelsea. Well we turned up, but were a little too cautious and Chelsea punished our errors. But getting to two finals is still a very good achievement and one not to be sniffed at. I'm confident we will be much better next season and I am sure Dalglish knows where we have to improve - as it is fairly obvious. Overall it has been a disappointing season, certainly in the league. But the performances have been much better than the results and I won't forget that when summerising the season. The squad is far stronger, unless people would prefer to see Degen, Jovanovic, Poulsen, Konchesky, Ngog, Itandje and Sotot back at the club. Yes Dalglish has made mistakes, yes we need to improve - but I do see some positives in the season and I think it might be a case of one step backwards and with the right signings in the summer we can take several steps forward as the foundations and squad is looking strong IMO. Dalglish deserves time to get it right and I hope FSG do that, otherwise I'm not sure 'The Liverpool Way' or 'YNWA' means much anymore.

If we had a finisher partnering Suarez this season, I have no doubts we'd be top four. Carroll for me is a Plan B and should remain that way until he is clinical enough to justify being Plan A. Priority for me this summer has to be a real finisher. As without a finisher you won't win many games. We saw it today, Carroll had a chance and missed it, 2 minutes later Swansea go up the other end have a simialr chance and score. We batter Arsenal, they have two chances, get two goals. It has happened time and time again. Also Suarez can;t play one/twos or link up with Carroll, what he creates is on his own mainly. Just imagine what he'd create alonsgide someone who can make clever runs, link with Suarez and play passes to meet his runs. I said he was a good signing, not he has been one of our best players this season. Bellamy, Skrtel and Agger have been our best three players IMO, then Suarez.
