I thought we were decent and deserved the win. Inter away is a tough fixture. Still not clicking up front but created enough to score 2 or 3 and most encouragingly hardly gave up a chance. And definitely a pen. Pulls his shirt and you can see how it unbalances him. No complaints if that was the other way round.

Look fair enough, Konate’s form isn’t great. If we had a functioning 1st team CB I’d have him in without hesitation. Gomez being on the bench and Gomez able to play 90 mins every week, indeed twice a week, are not the same thing are they. Mistakes in the box often lead to goals. It’s a high pressure position and Grav, Robbo, Endo will all make mistakes. Konate is also doing good things, things that the above probably couldn’t do, he is just undermining it with ricks. Again, if we had a proper credible alternative Konate gets dropped, but we don’t.

What other solutions though? The kid that gets sent off every time he comes on? Play Robertson or Gravenberch there? Will they make fewer mistakes playing out of position? Thats the problem, there aren’t any other viable solutions. Konate is playing by default, which is never good. But weighed up against Kid, Grav, Robbo, Endo etc it’s not unreasonable to keep picking Konate.

As has been pointed out the issue with Konate is there is no real alternative. Gomez can only be cover with his fitness situation. Who is playing there if Konate is benched? If we’d signed Guehi & Leoni didn’t get injured fair enough but we didn’t and he did. Theres not even any kids that you could throw in.

I do genuinely admire your singular adhesion to a binary perspective. I’m all about the nuance and the wider perspective. If we had children they would be incredible humans. Or dreadful people.

FSG have to back Slot here. No alternative. Sets a terrible precedent otherwise. What happens then, well who knows?
