I can understand the difficulties of managing in the current circumstances. I can sympathise with starting a new job and having to get your ideas across to a new set of players. I can even live with the results so far, as disappointing as they are - after all we've f***ed up in cup competitions before and sufffered from embarrassing home performances... But it's the post-match comments that highight the man as being unsuitable. We need inspiration, not hodgson's perspiration. Get Kenny in.

My argument such as it is amounts to more than him being the incumbent but if you can't be arsed scrolling back a few pages then I don't blame you! hodgson is a symptom of where we are as a club. We have to lower expectations. That it is tragic doesn't make it any less true.

The owners promised a lot. I remember people being quite happy at the time... We've all had more than enough time to judge them since. 5 games in to the league and you are already in the position to judge the manager. I'm not - I'll give him til Xmas. If he's done as much damage to us as the owners have in 20 games then he can f*** off as well.

ok... forget that he's our manager for a moment. We have a cancer at the heart of the club. We are slowly asset-stripping. We are buying in players of a lesser ability than we are selling. We aren't in the champions league. what would you expect a manager to be able to do during this season? (if you're answer is get us to about 6th and make us look a stable proposition then you and I aren't disagreeing....) The only issue then is whether hodgson deserves half a season to see if he can get us there.

The complaints are all too vague - Hodgson isn't "good enough". Good enough for what exactly? Good enough to win the league? Well no-s*** Sherlock. Good enough to get us back into the top 4 with the squad we have? hmmmm. He might, just might, be good enough to stop us falling down the league so that the good players we have stay (excepting Torres, might as well sign his "Sad you're going" card now) and we are still attractive enough a prospect for a decent manager to want to build himself a good CV.

I think that's absolutely right. not that I like that any more than anyone else. We have down-graded... players... manager...

The players' moods and expectations must have been high at the start of Benitez' last season and must have been somewhat lower at the start of this. Hodgson is starting this season from a much lower baseline. It's not an apology for him but he's got to get half a season before he's judged properly, surely? (I bet you'd have been confident of Benitez finishing top four after the season we had previous to last season. You'd have been 100% wrong.)

sometimes yes, sometimes no.... I don't recall Houllier's team ripping up trees for the first 10 games or so. People are asking how long to give Hodgson... a reasonable question but the answe has to be more than 5 games.... The next two home games have to be won...
