I still think we'll win the title this season...
Ian Mc replied to Leo No.8 's topic in Liverpool FC
have you just seen that performance mate? It was a shambolic f*ckin disgrace so forgive us if we find your "still believe" "We'll still win the league" b******s a little hard to swallow. 11 lads off this forum would have shown more fight out there .... -
Why have 2 great players on the pitch and one on the bench, when we can play Alonso, Gerrard and Momo in the same team together. I think we are stronger with Momo and Alonso in the centre and Gerrard on the flanks.

Thought he gave a real captains performance today, again like wednesday gave us a great option from the right with his skill, power and passing. Well in feller Let's hope we push on now we've got some important matches on the horizon Gala (H) Bolton (a) Happy Days

I sent Flo an email basically asking if she could clarify the position on the Objective One grant and also the deadline. This is the reply:- Dear Mr McHale, Thank you for your e mail and my apologies for not responding earlier, but I have been out of the city. The LFC stadium is not receiving any EU funding. What is receiving money is the regeneration of Anfield/Breckfield, as you rightly say. The planning consent for the new stadium has, as part of its conditions, a requirement for this to be part of a regeneration of the area. Without that regeneration, the project falls. The package is such that in order for it to be achievable a number of hurdles must be crossed. These are to do with building, demolitions etc, which are not within my control, but which will add to the time it will take to deliver the stadium and therefore the regeneration. The European money all has to be spent within the allocated time for the Merseyside pot, and it has to be claimed from Europe. That process must be completed by the end of 2008. If any projects cannot deliver to that timescale, the money will be lost. It is imperative therefore that all of the available money is allocated to projects that can, and will, spend in the time allowed. It is for that reason that, in July, the Programme Monitoring Committee for Merseyside - made up of representatives from the universities, private sector, local authorities, voluntary sector, further education and North West Region representatives, as well as government officials - took the decision to have as the day for decision the 28th September, when Projects Committee, which I Chair, meets. By this date, we must have firm evidence that the project is able to proceed; that firm evidence must be strong enough to enable the next phase - due diligence - to be completed. If that evidence is not provided to Government Office and the Objective 1 Secretariat, the project will not even be considered. The £9m is not a great deal of money in the great scheme of things, but it attracts a further £9.2m of NWDA cash, £1.7m city council money and possibly a further £5m of EU and NRF monies. These together, help to pay most of the cost of the regeneration of the area, rather than build the stadium. However, without that money, the community facilities and regeneration do not go ahead, and the stadium's planning consent falls. Liverpool FC can, of course, put in for a fresh planning consent, but will need to start from scratch and may find it difficult to obtain planning consent without the necessary regeneration package. We would all want the regeneration of this area to take place, but we are in the hands - or feet - of the club. We will do all that we can to make this a viable package, but if the club can't deliver, then it becomes very difficult indeed. I hope this answers your questions, but, if not, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Yours sincerely, Flo Flo Clucas OBE Executive Member, Economic Development and Europe, First Vice President, Liberals and Democrats in Europe Group, European Committee of the Regions and Local Government

I'm just basing my assumptions on the article mate. Bargaining tool was the wrong word what i was trying to say that she keeps applying pressure via the media on LFC to stump up evidence of our investment. Previous articles like "It's time to Put up or shut up" etc . Or maybe the article is indeed a load of s****.

I think it means that Flo Clucas as head of the committee placed an informal deadline of last friday for us to provide evidence of funding. The Decision is made next Thursday 28th so we must have until then to submit something and sit round the table. At this stage in the process i think deadlines don't mean jack-s***, i'ts just a bargaining tool for them to use in the local media. And boy they are using it. Anyway come on Rick, hurry up and find the pin number for the Bank of Ireland Gold Card

I hope so mate, to be honest i'd rather us go out the CL and Cups early if it meant a chance of winning the league. It's only when you look back at the table in May and see Sheffield United releagted and you realise we should have gone there and took 3 points.

16 years of what might have been, false dawns, players signed that were supposedly the final piece of the jigsaw. The question now is does this current crop of players have what it takes to bring home number 19? I have no doubt we have the skill in the squad and the matchwinning ability of Gerrard (when he's firing) plus a few others to make a good go of it. Unfortunately i also see the same failings that have hampered us over the past 16 years. In a one off cup game scenario where draw is not an option this Liverpool side under benitez and even Houllier excel, the never say die attitude has brought us many trophies and happy memories. Whatever the situation we react in a positive way 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 down doesn't matter we'll fight to the end. The hard part is transferring this attitude into a 38 game league season, tactics differ because of the safety net of the draw and so does the mentality of the players. Rather than going for the jugular there is a tendency to play it safe and cautious, let's try and nick a goal and protect that goal at all costs. We won't win the league with this over cautious mentality, look at the teams from 87/88 or even 89/90 we used to slaughter teams with exciting wing play and midfield steel and craft of players like mcmahon , barnes, whelan, houghton etc. I look back on yesterdays game with much frustration, i saw us playing really well yesterday, in fact not as cautious as we have been away from home and yet there still seemed to be a lack of belief that we could actually go there and turn them over. Players were over trying to force a goal and generally we had no composure to finish the countless chances we created. Old Trafford last season was another example, we faced a s**** united side and passed them off the park, content to outpass them for 90 minutes and after missing key chances we had settled for the draw. Until the usual last minute OT twist when we conceded in injury time from a set-piece. This team has massive potential and we have a great Manager in place, t's only a matter of time before we find the right mixture to win the league. I just can't see us doing it this year after what i have seen so far. Hope i'm proved wrong and we fight it all the way.

This will cheer you up mate Jimmy Saville Sings.....

HAHA cmon Kev cheer up mate. It's a s**** time at the mo, in fact the whole start of the season has been a let down for me to be honest. Started off at Bramall Lane with the wrong attitude i.e. point gained rather than 2 points lost against sheffield turd. Then the International crap started up again. Followed by West Ham a game in which we could have been 2-0 down, thankfully they have Harewood upfront . I won't mention the derby or today. Things can only get better mate.

Thought he was always available for the ball as an outlet, and his presence kept cole from bombing forward. Unfortunately his final ball has to improve, which one would assume it will with good coaching etc. Decent display just frustrating that we ain't firing on all cylinders at the mo.

Just bought a new pair of Astro trainees. Adidas Predator Absolute. Cant go wrong with Adidas, the best made training shoes ever! It was a Bruno Cheyrou moment Nice tight fit around the foot and really comfy. Had my previous pair of Predators for 7 years until they split on me last week !!! So do any of you stay loyal to a particular make or shoe or just buy anything????

Rafa ballsed up by playing Carra instead of Agger. I thought it was really unfair the way he was left out after how he has performed in the 2 previous league matches. And when Carra is fully fit Sami should be on the bench from now on, Let's face it he's on the decline. He's been a fantastic servant for Liverpool and one of our greatest buys i reckon. But whenever we come up against a pacy striker with him in the team we will be liable to concede. Especially as our formation and system is more attacking minded without the protection of Hamann or Gerrard (central).
