Sterling was way too good for our U21's while still eligible to play for the U18's. Anyone who's watched those teams for any amount of time should have known we had a potential world class player on our hands. There are always off-field events that have an effect on a players development that we don't know about but Sterling was on a completely different level than the other players around him in the U21's and U18's. Those who thought he'd "be another likely candidate to be shipped out to Hull or Preston" must have seen very little of him for the U21/U18 teams or simply are way to quick to write players off after a dip in form. * awaits the mandatory old quote dug up to show that I myself doubted him at the time *
