    Zidane is a Muslim and originally from Algeria (well his father is) and was denied the chance to play for them by Algeria's coach because he was "too slow". Great decision that from the coach.

    I know people who call themselves non-practising Muslims because they don't pray 5 times a day. I also no people who call themselves non-practicing Muslims because they drink and eat pork. It depends on what "a practising Muslim" means to the person using that label.

    If Materazzi started some of the typical "you're a terrorist" line then I can promise you most Muslims would be pissed off. Few would do what ZZ did but it is still one of the most disgusting lines used today.

    Why is it that none of you read what I say. I'm not defending him nor saying he's justified in his actions. But I am saying that there might be a reason for his behaviour. Is there some reason why that is too complicated for you to understand?

    You aren't reading what I've posted are you? I already said that there is no justification for his actions. I'm saying that Materazzi probably said something that made him lose it for a second. There's a difference.

    Except the sorting out after the game I agree. Would have been best for Zidane to just report the incident to the referee and ignore it. Maybe even have a word with Cannavaro about it. Everything except getting violent.

    Nothing justifies Zidanes action but there are a couple of things that could make someone do that. Just think for a moment about who and what Zidane is. Materazzi either said something about his family or religion. (now this will turn into a flamewar)

    We still don't know what Materazzi said to him. Not that that excuses what Zidane did but I'm quite sure Materazzi said something which will be dealt with by FIFA.

    I'm no SGE fan but he won the UEFA cup with IFK Göteborg. He then went to Benfica were he won the league and as the runner up in the UEFA cup and in his second time there as the runners up in the EC (lost against Milan IIRC). He also won the CWC with Lazio IIRC. That's a pretty good record. But it seems he has lost it lately. I'll give you that.

    IIRC Eiður kept Ronaldo out of the team when they were both at PSV. He was considered a better talent back then.......... But that might be the Icelandic media going nuts over a player that could actually become a World Class player. Our only one.
