  1. We could do with tying this fella down on a long term contract.
  2. I get that but saying that simply adding him to the squad takes us from 4th to 1st is something else.
  3. Reckon if he was first choice for the midfield holding role then he would have already signed.
  4. I'd stick with WIjnaldum for this but agree on the Milner for Moreno shout.
  5. I agree with you. No problem with him against the top teams - it's the other games where he doesn't give the team enough.
  6. Who is the guy in our team who has the vision to lay on the defence-splitting pass? Its no good having flying-machines in Mane and hopefully Salah if you can't find them quickly. For years that man was Gerrard, more recently it has been Coutinho. Our other midfielders have lots of pluses but none of them display that ability consistently.
  7. If we can't get the players we want (Keita, VVD and A N Other) in first then he goes nowhere. That should be the approach.
  8. Correct. He will be a much better player by the time he is Henderson's age assuming he stays fit.
  9. In the last couple of posts, we've heard VVD is a monster in the air, quick on the turn and can bring the ball out of defence - some kind of Yeats/Lawrenson/Hansen hybrid. As someone who has never watched him too closely it would be good to understand what the weaknesses are in his game. Does he read play well or rely on his size and speed to get him out of jail? Is he rash with his tackling? Is he susceptible to picking up injuries?
  10. Judging by that video, he is a predominantly left-footed player, something we are crying out for. I'm a bit weary of the fact that, while he has done well in the slower Italian league, he didn't make much of an impression at Chelsea. Having said that, they have previous of letting good players go (De Bruyne, Sturridge, Matic, Lukaku etc) so hopefully he is another.
  11. Clichy has been woeful whenever I've watched him.
  12. Big striker plus goalscoring flying machine Drogba + Robben Benzema + Ronaldo Costa + Hazard
  13. Isn't the clinical name for that Sanchez Balotelli syndrome?
  14. Its a long way back for Ings from here - if we can get someone to pick up his wages (or at least part of them) while he tries to get back then that seems sensible to me.

    Coutinho

I reckon it will be a midfield four - either a diamond like we saw against West Ham or to use Brendanspeak a box midfield. Either way it puts a big onus on the fullbacks to provide the width.

    Coutinho

Probably although he might like using a midfield diamond more. Personally I'd have Can as the midfield anchor ahead of Henderson as he shows more character in possession but I can see the benefit of Henderson's engine when we lose the ball. Good options.
  17. In addition to the absence of Mane, the other aspect is the aggression in our pressing which is completely different to the first half of the season. Some of this will be down to a thin squad that is now on its knees. Some of it will be down to Henderson being out - he may have his limitations on the ball but he did contribute to the tempo of our harrying of opposition players.
  18. I'd go with the same team as yesterday but Lallana in for Lucas. Sturridge to come on at half time if Origi doesn't up his game from recent displays.
  19. The good games have mostly come against the top six. Against the teams who are likely sit back and defend in numbers he needs to play with a higher tempo and more ambition. I wonder if Klopp would be tempted go with Henderson/Can + Lallana + Coutinho as a midfield three in those kind of games next season with another flying machine playing as the left-sided forward. The counterpressing game would need to be a lot better than it has been of late for that to work.
  20. Too many games like that from him - especially against the "lesser sides".
  21. Spurs is a better comparison - they play with a flat back four but still have fullbacks bombing on. Their's a 2-1 in midfield rather than a 1-2. It gives them more protection in front of the defence but means the attacking wide players have less licence.
  22. Lovren bears the brunt of the blame absolutely but it was the product of a succession of bad choices which started with Clyne.
  23. I've not seen it on TV but I'm sure in the build up to the corner for the 2nd ball there was a ball out to an unmarked Firmino on the right wing but Clyne opted for the "safe pass" instead which led to the ball ending up at the feet of Lovren.....
  24. He is not truly top level and injury prone to boot. Time to start building the team around others.
