I'm still holding my breath for the team to make the grand Sweden tour. But I realize I may have wait a little bit longer still for that one. Come to think of it I remember going to see us play Brøndby in Copenhagen when I was a kid. Michael Thomas scored in a 1-1 game I think. Aah the memories etc etc
aw ffs. Ireland and GB are culturally very much alike, especially for us outsiders. The English and perhaps Scottish PL are generally were the best Irish players are based. I don't think that there is any doubt that the Premier League is also sort of Irelands best league if you catch my drift. Many Irish player, especially the really good ones leave Irish clubs for English at a very young age. My impression is that many players rather play in the 3rd div in England than in the highest Irish league (Irish PL?). Thereby you can't help that they easily get lumped together with British players in many aspects. Do correct me if I'm wrong though. Don't think the thread starter wanted to come across as ignorant or a bigot. However the fact that he is Danish may prove me otherwise
You do realize you are contradicting yourself i tad there? The accuracy of passing definitely improved after Xabi was put on. On wingers in particular were put into more dangerous positions by some of Alonso's passes. Agree though that it was particularly our final balls that let us down today. And I think it has been like that consistently this season and perhaps last season as well. I'm guessing this is why we score fewer goals than the other top clubs. But I do see Lucas as part of the problem why we couldn't really break them down today, as the more attacking of the central mids he is expected to move in towards the oppo's penalty box create space and overall movement for us. That didn't happen. Lucas was to me very absent in our attacking play. Granted I watched the game on TV and you may spot more subtle movements when you're actually at the game, but still...
I agree, at least Lucas was tested today. I have nothing against trying out these players. He didn't cut it, probably won't get another chance for a while. But how Keane stayed on the pitch the entire game is way beyond me. Gets so many passes wrong and whenever he does get into a scoring opportunity himself he is hopelessly ineffective. That is to say, when he doesn't disappear completely like during the 2nd half today. However he seems to me immune from removal in the starting XI. He only seems to create danger when the pace is high like when we counter attacke. Problem is there is not going a hell of a lot of counter attacking against a team like Fulham. I would like to see Kuyt or Babel tried up front, they both deserve a chance there imo. Keane has been too poor in too many games now.
Interesting to see how Lucas copes. Good he is tried out though, and I don't mean in the sense of a carling cup game along with other reserves but in a near full strength XI. I still hope to see Babel in a similar line-up alongside Torrent up front soon.
