Is correct. And what I stated before in this thread. Push Kuyt up with Torres and have a Babel or a creator in the mould of Luis Garcia (who I think we have missed incredibly this year) or an Aimar and we will score f***ing s*** loads.
-
Well if I have upset you and you thought I was being racist I sincerely apologise... don't know how old you are but Barnes was referred to as "Tarmac" the black Heighway, not as a racist dig but in reference to a winger we sing about in Fields of Anfield Road. Don't know what relevance your source was as there was nothing in there about Barnesy being offended by being compared to one of the greatest wingers who ever played for us. He was my favourite player growing up, loved him and admired him and never once did I think of him as anything else but a f***ing great player, regardless of colour, regardless of creed.
-
No sorry... WTF are you on about??!!! "Tarmac" - the black Heighway was John Barnes' nickname. I was referring to him when I was talking about Ryan Babel... What's your issue with this?
-
The skinny "Tarmac" is starting to show his potential... lost his way a little after his great start to the season but he is going to be something special... maybe him behind Torres and Kuyt will work in the future. Lucas.. I like this kid. He has all the qualities of a footballer and he is going to be one of our best in 2-3 years time... Forget Wenger.. yes he has got a great team but when this team clicks, f***ing watch out everyone.

I was watching Kuyt at Feyenoord for about 3 seasons before he joined us and I think he misses someone like a Kalou type player playing with him... He is never going to be a huge creator of goals but he always gets stuck in, his heart is in the right place and I think if we start supporting him like we should... AS SUPPORTERS... then he will show his true colours. FFS the lads da has died this season and it's affected him. His da was his everything and when you lose someone that close your mind is always going to be elsewhere... but the lad still gets stuck in. We've been begging for players who do that and now we've got a couple in Masch (who was f***ing outstanding again tonight) and Dirk. I believe in the lad. Class is permanent, form is temporary. You can say he is not good enough and fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion but I seriously think, if we buy a creator in the summer and play Torres and Kuyt up front together for a good run of games, they will be lethal together. YNWA and well done Dirk!

Well the most famous I remember is Chelski making us run at the Kop first half in 2005.... they paid for it....
-
My only concern with Gudjonsen is his lack of finishing ability from less than 6 yards out at the Kop end....

Unfortunately for Rafa, the team has suffered some critical injuries at critical points in the season. When he has tried to start transitioning players into the team they have got injured. Agger is a prime example of this this year. Sami was going to be phased out but as a result of the injury has had to play a lot more games than what even he may have expected. Sami is a great player but his distribution and choices have left a lot to be desired this season. We suffered when Xabi got injured a couple of seasons ago (against Chelski at Anfield) and we have suffered from him being injured this season too to keep up a sustained challenge with the other three. We rushed Xabi and Torres back and we saw what happened there. I don't know (and I am going to be shot down for this I know) but I am still to be convinced that Stevie G is a centre midfielder. He would be the greatest right back to ever play the game if he played there like he did when he first started for us. He has all the attributes of a brilliant overlapping fullback.

I don't think it as cut and dried as blaming Mascherano in isolation though Kaizer. He has been immense for us at times this season and I think his best game could have been against what many argue as the best team in the world (AC Milan) against the best player in the world (Kaka) Statistics can be used to form any argument and skew it any way you like. How many times did Mascherano play when Kuyt was in the team? How many times was Voronin in the team? How many times was Torres playing by himself up front? You could go on and on. How many times should Riise have passed to a player in a better position instead of shooting when Mascherano played? Objectively, the other teams in the league like I alluded to before have copied us from days gone by and now have fullbacks who get around the man and whip in crosses. Your Man Utds and Arsenal play pass and move football. They have overlapping fullbacks who create the space and time for the other players in front of them. Football is not a complicated game, it is only players who complicate it. That is why pass and move football was always the most effective at LFC. A very famous man once said "Don't worry about the other team, let them worry about us"

I was only thinking about the countless draws we've had the other day. The same as Fulham! But it only started the "what ifs" in my head (What if we had won 5 of those = 10 points more etc) We can't afford to draw so many games it this age to keep pace with the other 3. I think one of the main problems we have had this year is we seem to lack the overlapping fullbacks who can whip in a decent cross... This was always something that the great Liverpool teams had whether it was Lindsay, Kennedy, Neal, Nicol.. whoever. Arbeloa does it sparingly, Finnan hasn't had his best season, Aurelio keeps getting injured and Riise is too busy picking out his mate in Row Z with speculative shots. The fullbacks read the game well but we are lacking some genuine pace. If the lads got around the wide players (who aren't playing very wide as well mind you) we may create more chances for the likes of Crouch, Torres and Kuyt. I don't know if it is a confidence thing or trust in the players in front of them (Pennant, Kewell, Benayoun) but we look clearly disjointed at the moment. I pray it all comes good and we'll turn the corner because I'm a supreme optimist when it comes to LFC but that's my take on the situation at the moment.

As on the other thread relating to this... A 30 foot banner with... "You'll Never Walk Alone" - So George and Tom you can walk together....

Tommy Smyth, that little s*** twisting garden gnome on ESPN said that we were playing rubbish, hadn't made any chances, expected a lot more from a Liverpool team and Luton were unlucky not to be ahead... then Babel scored.... I hope Tommy Smyth commentates on every other game we have where we play so poorly and win 5-0... We were a f***ing shambles, sack the f***ing team. Buy a whole new team... Jesus wept. I wonder if people/networks have set agendas or scripts that they are given to follow rather than actually watching the game itself and making observations. An example - Babel has done nothing to justify the 11 million pound price tag The truth - Hit the post, hit defender in the head with a volley that was going in, unlucky with a lay back from Crouch and then scored.... oh and he's just turned 21 and has plenty of the best years ahead of him... f*** me what a waste of money...
-
The one player I think we need and one we have sorely missed is Lil Luis.... Him and Torres would have been brilliant together. The unpredicability of the man creates enough indecisiveness in defenders for someone like Torres to take advantage of. I think that Babel will eventually adapt into this position given the time, leaving Xabi and Mascher to rotate and freeing up Gerrard to do what he does best. But for me, we had the player but unfortunately he wanted to go home.

If you could change the result of one Liverpool match in history...
Reds4Life replied to psl 's topic in Liverpool FC
I was thinking defo the quarter final of the FA Cup 89 because I lost my cousin but agree that if I could change anything it would have to be Heysel. Then we would never have got to that point in the first place. YNWA JFT96 -
Can someone enlighten me as to who the Manager of the Valencia team was that gave us an absolute touch up at Anfield? Not sure but I was pretty impressed with the level of football, the technique, the style... I really envied them and wanted their manager.... if only I knew who it was.....

Can someone wake me up in May when there is one game left and we are 6 points behind the leader.... that my friends is when we can't win the league. Look, some of you are disappointed we aren't playing championship manager / champagne football every week because you cling dearly to the "greater squad depth" = "increased quality" quotient and hey, I am with you. I'd love to see us t*** teams every week, pass the ball 150 times before the opposition touches and score 6 goals a game it but reality dictates that some days players have an off day. It happens. I have always got upset and can't talk for 3 days when we lose (still to this and I'm 30!) and understand some of you vent about it straight away when we lose here. You are entitled to your opinion and always will be but the longer you are negative about the something, the deeper the mindset becomes. The reality of it is this everyone.... we are playing poorly, granted, but we are using some of our secondary players with Rafa utilising our "greater squad depth" and still getting results... we are still hanging in there and when our spine is back (Agger, Alonso and Torres) I think our "increased quality" in the team will mean that results will improve. Nobody's perfect.... well everyone except me! HA! Get behind the lads, cheer your hearts out, show them what supporting LFC is all about and let's bring no 19 home. YNWA

Don't take the bait... I personally think Gerrard is the greatest Right Back we will ever see.
-
Gerrard plays better on the right.... Our back 5 are our "match winners" and play nearly all the time.... We miss Xabi Alonso... <Seconds out> Round 1 - Fight! Oh... I forgot one more thing... zonal defence cost us 2 goals on Saturday...

Looks like we have a new left winger....
Reds4Life replied to Dominus Maximus 's topic in Liverpool FC
I can't see much wrong with what Kewell has said to be honest. The lad loves playing for Liverpool, he's been injured and he realises he hasn't performed. Rafa has stuck by him because he can see his potential when he's fully fit, evidenced by when he played with Stevie G more in the middle of midfield and we went on that good run in the 2005/06 season and he wants to repay the faith shown in him. He says he's fighting for a new deal and I didn't see anywhere that he was money grabbing or looking for a better deal at all, just another chance to prove himself at the club he loves and supports and an opportunity to contribute to bringing Number 19 home. Wish we'd get off our players backs and do what we supposedly call ourselves - SUPPORT!! Although I'm sure if he scores a screamer in front of the Kop against the Mancs, the s**** or Chelski, you'll be the first ones to praise him and say you always knew he had it in him, that Harry lad is a genius etc etc -
We deserved better on the night but that's what makes football football. We had our chances, we had our opportunities but the ball rolls a funny way sometimes. It only makes me love the game that little bit more. It stings now, don't get me wrong but I can live with the way we played last night. We never lost our commitment to the cause, the fans never lost their commitment to the team. The shirt is the blood of all of us combined - the people, the players and the coaching staff. Together, united we can achieve some amazing things again and I believe we will. You'll Never Walk Alone. JFT 96

Unloved? Feeling picked on? People always having a go at you? Feeling useless? Now's the time to look in the mirror and ask yourself.... Am I an Evertonian?
-
My take on the game was that we needed someone like Stevie G to pressure Makelele. Time and time again Makelele is the unsung hero for how quietly effective he is but he is not the player he was at Real and I think someone like Stevie running at him constantly and making him back pedal could allow Xabi and Mascherano to play the way they are capable of. I think we'll see that next week myself. Pennant will be the wide player, possibly Gonzo too and a lot more potent in attack with Crouchie and Kuyt up front. The future is red, the future is and always will be LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB!! I can hear the ghosts of Kop supporters long gone but not forgotten calling. Wishing they were there not just in spirit but also in person to roar us on. BELIEVE!!! When you walk through a storm and all that. We can do this!!

Sorry if you misinterpreted what I meant by the Rushie comment. I meant LFC signing a lower league player like Rushie was (Chester) when we took a chance on him (Paisley), not that he plays like Rushie. Perhaps Rafa is following/emulating Paisley to the letter of the law if he does/has signed him!
