You did? I didn't. We bought two new strikers in the summer, it always takes time for new players to settle. The fixture list did us no favours at all this season, if we hadn't had our five toughest aways in the first six away games (i.e. while we were still bedding in the new players) we'd have been closer to challenging.

I don't care what reason was given, the fact remains that Gerrard played OK in the center and scored two good goals, so this is the last we'll see of Lampard in the central attacking role for some time (unless McClaren is completely clueless, which is still open for debate). Mission accomplished.

Maybe the 18 members of the G14 should form a breakaway 'European Super Reserve League' where their reserve teams competed against each other. It's not like they wouldn't be able to afford it... and as extra bonuses Chelsea would be excluded (ner ner!) and the UEFA bosses would have a collective heart attack.

I do like the idea of a 'reserves cup', maybe the winner of that gets to play in the FA Cup the following season?

Our run of bad form in the middle of last season coincided with Momo's injury. Our two long runs of wins in the league both happened when Momo was in the team. I think Momo is the most naturally talented ball winner I have seen. He's also got an amazing engine. He must be a nightmare to play against. I agree that the rest of his game still needs some work though, and that he's been struggling for form a bit recently. He's still young, he's got plenty of time to work on his composure and decision making in particular.

We're always rubbish when Alonso doesn't play. The problem is this - if we have our best midfielder and most potent attacking force playing on the right side of midfield he needs to have the ball. When Alonso plays Gerrard gets the ball delivered to him - on a silver platter, from 40 yards plus - a dozen times or more during the game. When Alonso doesn't play Gerrard doesn't get the ball. Our team and formation (with Gerrard on the right) is essentially built around Alonso's long range passing ability. When Alonso doesn't play, we suck. So when Alonso doesn't play I think Gerrard should play in the middle.
